G&L L 2500

This came home with me today. It replaced my L 2000 Fretless. As you can imagine, Ginny said "another Red guitar". It is a Cherry Burst Ash body with a Maple cap and a nice one at that. I will in the near future make a comparison to my Stingray 5. This has a satin neck and I would have preferred a GOT gloss, but it is fine. It doesn't have flame in the neck like the l 2000 but after a lot of thinking, this one is sweet. Here is is.

Thanks Louis, I especially like no pickguard on these. As we talked about earlier, my Stingray 5 has a Tortoise guard and I do not care for it.-- Darwin

This is a beautiful guitar Darwin. Going by the photos it is a subtle cherryburst, there is not that much range in the burst and it works well with the maple cap. What was the reason for getting rid of the fretless? Do you just like to keep the water moving and fresh?

Michael, the Fretless was an interesting test. This one did not have line markers and I used it for band practice once and it sounded zoomy as you have to find spot. It takes a long time and a lot of experience to become a precise fretless player. Rather than disfigure that beautiful Ebony board by fretting it, I traded it. From a money standpoint it did me well and the fact it was drop dead gorgeous helped influence the original purchase. There is a fretless player out there who will love it. I also prefer 5 string.

I just did a setup on the L-2500 today for my string height preference and this baby feels good. The factory setup was dead on and I did very minor tweaks. It was intended as a backup to my Ray 5 but will probably be the primary. You observation on the Cherryburst is interesting. It is not overwhelming and the edge and back are identical to the Z-3 that I posted earlier this week. -- Darwin
