It went for just under a $1,000. Was that a good deal? I really wanted to bid but law school loans are standing in the way of my GAS. I picked up a maple fingerboard Broadcaster a few months ago (I registered it, Craig , so do not worry). And Tim, I CANNOT believe that Broadcaster went for under $900 a month or so ago... I spent WELL over that for mine.
But I would really like to pick up another "collector" G&L that I can plan for around $1000. Any ideas from our avid collectors? I still get goosebumps when I play the Broadcaster knowing that Leo himself inspected and signed it... so cool.
Any thoughts about guitars that I should be looking out for (and that you all are not planning on scooping up yourselves) would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much!
Anyone see the ASAT Classic III sell on eBay last night?

Good deal? Think so. Just know I paid more for mine in May of this year at Maple Street Music, Atlanta. And that one has a repaired output jack with football plate but no scratches.
Hope this helps,

There are good deals out there for sure, just have to keep your eyes peeled. I saw a black SC-1 on Ebay last night for a "Buy It Now" of $720. I was literally about to pull the trigger when some douchebag (unless, of course, it was one of you fine gentlemen) put a bid of $650 on it. Now I'm sure bidding will go above $1000 (at least it should given the rarity and apparent condition of the guitar). My biggest guitar regret is passing on a viking blue SC-1 I saw hanging in a shop a couple of years back for $700. It was perfectly aged and sounded simply amazing.
Been seeing some older ASAT's and SC's going pretty cheap with the economy the way it is, and the occasional rarebirds pop up now and again. Seems like Leo-era G&L's in general may be a decent investment right now, and they sure sound good even if they don't go up in value.
By the way, I feel your pain on the law school loans - I graduated from law school in 1997 and still paying!!!

You guys are great. Thanks so much for the fast reply... Bummer about the law school loans; I am just hoping to be gainfully employed when I graduate next year. Wish me luck .
Jos, I was hoping you would respond... You are the man that "got" me to buy the Broadcaster... SO glad I did. I am hoping I can pick up a guitar soon.
I miss buying (I just have to imagine that it is actually "x" dollars, at 8% interest) ... But really, who can put a price on playing a Leo era guitar? No one.

And Desertrat... I was wondering how you like your Comanche? It looks BEAUTIFUL! I had a Z-3 and I liked it, but I figured I would have more tonal possibilities with a Comanche. I just sold it ( ) to fund a new yet to be determined purchase. But man, what a great looking guitar you got there!

Thanks! The Comanche is still fairly new to me - I've only had it about a month or so - but it's a rocking guitar for sure. I've never played a solid-body Comanche so can't compare my semi-hollow but it has a nice full vintage kind of sound. The pickups are dead silent and incredibly dynamic. It can go from soft purr to mean bark just with pick attack alone. It loves pedals. I've had to adjust my usual amp settings to bring down the treble and push the mids up a bit, so it is taking some getting used to compared to my Legacy. But all in all, it has quickly moved into my #1 slot and I sure am glad I got it.And Desertrat... I was wondering how you like your Comanche? It looks BEAUTIFUL! By the way, I just played a Broadcaster for the first time today. Just strummed a few chords really, but that guitar was clearly in a whole different league than anything else I have played before. Amazing. You are one lucky dog to own one.
Re: Law school loans, the interest rate is so low I almost consider it free money so I've taken my time paying them back. But I would highly recommend that you get a few years of experience under your belt then start your own practice. I did it about 6 years ago and it has led to good opportunities and much more balance in my life than I could ever find working for some big firm in some big city making big money for someone else.

Whoever bought the Classic III paid too much -- it could have been had for $900 a week earlier when it was last offered for sale on ebay, but no bids at all that time. Just goes to prove that no-reserve, low opening price auctions often gets the best price for the seller.
