i just got home. had some protein shakes and some meals when i ate 3X 6 ounce greek yogurts. for lunch i had a subway 6 inch turkey sandwich on wheat, with double meat. tomatoes and cucumbers and a bunch of cilantro instead of the iceberg lettuce. nonfat mayo and mustard and a little vinegar.

i have never played a tribute G&L. i have seen some very good deals on CL though. for my G&L question: what is your opinion on the tribute series guitars? are they a good deal for the money, or are they just plain good? maybe not so good?

for my non G&L question i want to ask about opinions on tv's. what do you think about the new technologies? is 3d television for you? would you pick a plasma, an LED or an LCD? any opinions on the oled stuff?

sorry about to short report, today was a long day at work.

No TV.

I would buy a used Tribute for about $350 if it was really great otherwise I'd be more willing to spend 3-4 times that for a new USA. I would not likely buy a new Tribute. I like the USA G&Ls and I am favoring the newer models.

i wouldn't buy a new tribute. i have never bought a new guitar. i like the depreciation. i usually wait for the opportunity when someone needs money fast and has to sell something. i waited 3 years for a guitar once. the asking price was 2100. one day the guy asked me, how much do you have on you. i said 800. he said take it. he needed the money that day.

I have not been in a position to benefit from this but I have witnessed similar miracle sales.

To me the 3D TV is a gimmick. It doesn't look right to me.

Here is a extract from a report I did for my company. Just remember this is my opinion-

What's the Difference Between LCD, LED, and Plasma?

The three technologies are vastly different; particularly how each the screen is lit. In plasma HDTVs, the phosphors that create the image on the screen light up themselves, and don't need any backlighting. For LCD HDTVs, however, the liquid crystal screen does not illuminate, requiring a separate light source. That's where the difference between "regular" LCD screens (also known as CCFL-backlit LCD) and LED-backlit LCD screens (also known as LED-LCD, or just LED screens) come in. Traditional LCD HDTVs use cold cathode fluorescent lights (CCFLs) to illuminate the screen. CCFLs are similar to the fluorescent lights you might see in your lamps and overhead light fixtures. They use a charged gas to produce light. LED-LCD screens, like their name implies, use light emitting diodes (LEDs) to illuminate the display.
• Plasma – the light switches on and off to produce the picture (this has blacker blacks)
• LCD – Has a fluoro back light and a shutter that opens and closes (blacks are grey – eg blinds in a house and sunlight)
• LED LCD –Has LED’s as the backlight. As the LCD but they switch off some of the LED’s to get a black like the Plasma

Other things to consider when buying TV’s
This is very subjective and is more a personal preference
• Image quality – Always check with real life content. Animated movies will look as good on a cheap TV as an expensive one as they have a limited pallet of colours, but in real live there are an infinite amount of colours. This is why some retailers will put on a computer generated images (movies) rather than something with true skin tones
• Moving Pictures – In the past LCD’s had slow refresh rates which would blur fast images eg sport. Most quality LCD’s no longer have this issue, but some of the “cheap” ones may still
• Sound – If they are not running it through a sound system there can be a great difference between TV speakers
• Power – If your budget allows this can be a factor. As stated above LED’s have lower power consumption, but cost more to purchase
• Connections – Make sure there is enough for what you have now and expect in the future and the correct types
• Price – To fit your budget
• Warranty – If you are left with a few choices then check out the warranty

I hope this may help you.

Louis -
Glad you were able to get the LR in.

Tribbys - Only played one, an Invader at a store, but enough to think if the imports are this good, the US ones would be really good.
I'd have no problem with recommending one over other stuff in a comparable price range...

TV -
Not a big gearhound there. Sony 32" LCD HD with a DVR setup. 5.1 surround audio thru some vintage Infinity and DLK speakers.
Standard DVD's, no Blu-ray or gaming systems etc.... Of course, the kids want a wii thingy from Santa.

never played a tribute, figure I can only get so many guitars, better get top notch ones. I think the biggest difference would be the necks. To keep the tributes different, their necks are different, 9.5" radius.

As far as tv's go, no 3d, seems dumb to me.

I have been a plasma guy for a long time, always thought they looked better in a home, yet lcd would be better suited for a bar/restaurant.

I'm on my 3rd plasma, a samsung 58" 1080p and its great, no complaints. Its 3 years old.

I think however, that times have changed. I was just over at a friends place, he just bought a Sanyo 60" led/lcd and it looks fantastic. He paid $1599 for it, amazing.

THey seem to have leapfrogged the plasma.

OLED is definitely the future it seems but its a long time away.

Going to Jerry's Left Handed Guitar store in sarasota, fl today. Am so excited!

Louis, you did have a long day yesterday! My reference to the longevity of pets is that we lose several of them in our liftimes.

I have had a Tribute and it was a very nice guitar. Mine did not have perfect fret work like my others but it was very acceptable and if budget were the primary concern, I would definitely buy a used tribute. I would probably not buy new as you can buy used Americans for the price of a new Tribute.

I have an LCD TV but Stagecoach said it well and that is how it works. No 3 D for me.-- Darwin

I've always had hand-me-down tv's until last year. Sat out in the rain on black friday for my LCD tv 40" no-name brand for $300. Does the job, I don't have cable but I do have a Wii (thingy  ) hooked up to play games and more importantly stream netflix. Occasionally I'll hook up my laptop to it as well and go on Hulu for any TV shows I miss. If I had the money I'd have gone LED though, plasma's are too sensitive (i.e. can't lay them flat/dead spots etc.)

Only played a tribute once, I think I mentioned it yesterday. Bad example for me though it was in rough shape set up wise (used at GC) quality felt good though. I have a hard time buying them because you can get such good deals on used US G&L's, I just watched 2 leo era sc-2's go on ebay for under $500

I went without TV for a few years until my pops bought me one for my 21st birthday. I would have much rather had a music making tool rather than a brain wash apparatus. Having said that, my buddy has a 50+ inch 3D tv that is pretty awesome. We watched the Mavs win the championship in 3D which was great.

I've been wanting to check out a tribute. The 9" radius neck is appealing since my old strat was 9.5". There are no shops around here that carry much G&L so I have no way to test one out.

I didn't want to throw numbers out but since we're discussing deals. I paid <price deleted by Admin*> + shipping for my 30th anniv. Legacy via a "Second Chance" offer on ebay. (new unplayed condition). Best deal I've gotten so far on a guitar. (this morning the same seller offered the ASAT 30th anniv. for <price deleted by Admin*> + shipping. Thinking about snatching that one too).

* New G&L instrument prices are not allowed to be posted,

well, i ended up getting this one for christmas from one of my clients.

Image

samsung UN55D7000LF. it literally looks like the picture is floating on the wall. there is basically no edge. the black is as black as plasma, but it is actually brighter.
