G&L Double Barrel pedal review.

This is from my other post, but I'll be playing a lot tonight and I'm going to try it through several amps and different guitars.

The pedal did very well. I used it after my Wha (ASAT, Wha, G&L Double Barrel, Hooligan Amp). I also brought my 63 CS Nos Tele to play. With the ASAT it was very cool how it would push the 15watt amp into overdrive. I played around with the low and high knobs, but found them to not be very effective on the tone. Possibly at lower volumes or with a cleaner amp it might have made a difference. With the Tele it helped it to punch through the mix and really gave it that little extra for solos that I need with single coils in this amp. Overall first impression for this pedal, Cool, volume boost to the front end of a cranked up amp / disappointed with the lack of tone variation in the low and high knobs. Still a very usable pedal. More to come in the next few weeks and some sound clips when I get some free time.

OK, so I've done a few gigs with the DB pedal and have used a few amps and guitars. This is a cool pedal. Very sturdy construction, easy to use and best of all it says G&L

If you like the sound of your amp and you'd like to goose it a bit for solos then this is a no brainer. Very true to the original sound with little coloration. I did notice playing through my Hooligan 12gauge (30watt BF style amp with 'verb and trem) and my '64 Fender Tremolux, that the high and low settings were a bit more noticeable than with my Hooligan .38Special (a "British" style 38watt amp) or the Hooligan Derringer (12watt tweed style amp). I played a variety of guitars through these amps, G&L ASAT Dlx, '01 Fender Strat, Custom Shop '63 NOS Tele and an Epi Sheraton II and the pedal was great no matter what guitar or pickups were being used. Since I really don't use a clean boost pedal because I do that with my volume pot on the guitar, I'll be using the Double Barrel with my amps that are more prone to overdrive to avoid coloring the tone with a distortion pedal.
