Lunch Report for Wednesday, November 2nd

Post by Lefty »

Lunch today will be a grilled Rueben sandwich on Rye with a side of Potato salad from a local deli. My wife is out of town on business, so I thought I would forget about calories today!

Fess up, how many of you do the same??

~~~~~
Somewhere around 2004, I decided to take up guitar again. I also decided to actually buy a left-handed guitar & start over. At the time, I didn't know how far I would get with "relearning," so I bought an Ibanez AE.
Probably paid too much for it, oh well... I didn't have an amplifier at the time, so I figured buying an acoustic guitar would be a cheaper route. The action on that guitar was very high initially, so I bought a replacement saddle (just in case I screwed it up) and removed 1/8-3/16" from the bottom of it - the action is now much better and the guitar plays okay, but not great. I don't play it much now - but it looks good sitting on a stand!
I'm guessing I'm not the only one that has a guitar they don't use?
~~~~~

My third G&L guitar is a Vintage White Comanche. Another fine guitar ! Again, I bought this guitar from Don Depaola. Here he is (again,) playing my Comanche shortly before I bought it.

G&L Comanche Semi-Hollow Blues

Escape from New York Theme - Comanche

~~~~~
I bought this one specifically because the Lefty Comanche is very rare. As far as I know, this is one of 4 ever manufactured. The pickups are the same as used in a RH Comanche. With the additional switching, It is capable of producing some very unique sounds.
~~~~~

Let's give a big round of applause to Donny! I feel he has helped G&L sell quite a few guitars. :happy0065: :happy0065:

~~~~~
That's all for today! :)
I have a few unplayed guitars. Chief among them is the Yamaha 12-string acoustic I picked up on Craigslist for $100 a couple of years ago. I'm thinking of swapping it for a Mexican telecaster.
Lefty, a Reuben is one of my favorites and is always what I have when I meet friends for lunch. I do not worry about calories too much. I just try to maintain a reasonable health.
Ibanez makes some very nice looking guitars. Walk into the local GC and there are many of them on the wall, obviously a popular choice. I have two high end acoustics that hang on the wall all the time and only get used when needed. I much prefer the lighter strings and ability to bend on an electric. One of my acoustics is a Adamas 12 fret composite guitar and it is awesome. The other is an Ovation artist series with nylon strings, a very sweet tone. I should use them more but I am always test driving the electrics. Very nice lefty acoustic and LH guitars certainly limit your selections. Several of you Lefties have signed up recently so lets see some of these leftys. SouthPaw has shown some beauties in the past. Have a great day everyone!-- Darwin
Don't worry about calories due to my natural metabolism. I like to eat but have only needed to think twice about portions. I could easily eat half as much and be full.
Had a hamburger patty with melted cheese and mushrooms with avocado and fresh tomato on the side plus a few chips.
I do not have any guitars not being used. Until recently I did not have a guitar to leave unplayed. Now that I received a 2nd I will be neglecting one because the new guitar has already proven to be more enjoyable in so many ways. Neither exist yet (no pictures posted here) as I am still working out details on the first and am not 100% certain I will be keeping the 2nd. I bought a 3rd because the price was right and it gave me a choice. One will be leaving but the 3rd is not here yet.
I don't really have much that I don't play, I have thinned the heard a little and only have 3 guitars right now. I sold a ASAT classic a few months ago. I wish I hadn't.
But I do go on streaks with things, only playing acoustic for a while, then only electric. Then only one electric. Then mixing it up.
Fess-Up? Yea, I eat a lot worse when my wife is gone. She is traveling for work more, and I kinda take a break from cooking while she is gone. She has been traveling near her family so she has been taking our daughter. But this trip I get to keep the little one, so will have be on better behavior.
I also quite playing when I got married to my first wife. Sold most of my guitars and all amps, and all my firearms. A Fender DR may have had something to do with our divorce, I am not really sure. But I still have the amp!
cheers, jeremy
What's a calories? :confused0007:
My three G&Ls are my main guitars and I find it hard enough sharing my time between them. Sometimes one will sit untouched for a month if I'm busy. The only guitar I have that doesn't get played at all anymore is my Washburn Dimebag Darrell model. It's cumbersome and has a Floyd Rose which I just cannot be bothered with. It also wouldn't fit in that well visually in either of the bands I play with. I won't sell it because it's worth a lot sentimentally - it was my first guitar. Before that I played my Dads guitars. My banjo and lap steel don't get much time either these days.
Don certainly helped me decide on a Bluesboy. He has great touch.
Hey darwin,
That is one of my favorites too, but I'm trying to watch my weight a bit this year.. but sometimes you have to cheat a bit on the diet thing.
I took down the picture of the lefty acoustic after I realized that we are not encouraged to post photos of non-G&L guitars on this forum. :oops: Glad I figured that out before tomorrow's Lunch Report! You were about to see 5 more! :oops:
Lefty, I believe that you can post pictures of others as long as you are lunch reporter. You cannot post others in the G&L Porn. You can post others under the General Music Discussion. We all show our guitars and it is good to see them. Just that we get them under the correct subforum. I have posted most of mine during LR duty. Lets see them.-- Darwin
I don't think that's a problem. Happens all the time. Why would they want to stop us seeing a Gretsch Black Penguin?
Great timing! My wife seldom travels for business, but she happened to have left this afternoon until Saturday night!
Because I'm the cook around here and because I have the kids with me, whether or not the Miss is around doesn't really change the table fare. Tonight I made quesadillas using chicken from last night's roast. Also steamed some haircut verts, or whatever they call green beans these days. Baked cinnamon rolls for dessert. Bravo! I'm making chicken soup with root veggies and the bird carcass tomorrow.
Care to join me? I'm thinking of making some biscuits to have with the soup....
Don D's Guitars: I think it's wonderful that you have managed to get your hands on his wonderful instruments. I do wonder thought why he's selling his G&L instruments (and lefties to boot). Can you shed any light on this?
Guitars I don't use: I have no guitars that I NEVER use, but because I play mostly acoustic due to the wife and kiddies, and because I have a number of guitars and rotate them as the strings on the one I'm using get dull, none of my electrics get played a lot, actually.
It's cool because I get to "rediscover" each of my electric guitars about once a year.
Nice week you have going here. Thanks! - ed
Hi Ed,
Sounds like you know your way around the kitchen & that's a good thing. The biscuits sound good!
Yes, I have been very lucky to pick up a few of Don's guitars when he decides to part with them. Why does he get rid of them?? I'm not really sure but I think so that he can buy more! I know he offered to sell me a gorgeous S-500 at one point, but the wife wasn't going to let me have it, so I passed. He still has a few I think. I've seen a new video with him playing a beautiful ASAT Special Deluxe:
If he decides to part with it, I'ld be happy to buy it. He is a very talented person & seeing him playing the guitar he's offering for sale is almost like playing it myself - except that I will never be able to play as well as he does. I hope to do business with him in the future!! ;)
I guess I kind of do that with most of my guitars - I'll play one until it no longer interests me, then I'll grab another and make it my "new favorite" guitar until I need a change. It is fun rediscovering a guitar - Sometimes all I need to do is change strings to rediscover.. :)
Have a great lunch tomorrow!!
I have posted pictures of all kinds of my wacky project basses. There is no restriction on what pictures you can post. (within reason that is...)
Ellen is actually cool. Whether it's a "normal thing" - well, we'll leave that for another day. ;+) - ed
