DeArmond guitars?

Post by Sean Clavin »

Anyone have one? I have owned 2 of them, still have one, a T-400. Used to have an X-155 (big full size dual HB jazz box). Sold it...kinda regret it every once in awhile. Great guitars for the $. The pickups (DeArmond 2K's) are great sounding and the center position is hum cancelling. I disconnected the tone pot on the neck pickup, it was too dark. I'm thinking about putting in a series/parallel switch for more tone options. The only issue is the frets feel a bit rough when I'm bending. Other than that it's a great playing guitar.

Sean, I had a very nice LP style DeArmond a couple of years ago> I believe it was a M75 T and it was Silver Flake with a Bigsby. Very nice build and it was heavy. I tried recording with it but the DeArmond pickups had low output and I did not use it. It may have been fine if I had used a direct box or preamp. The fit, finish and neck were just fine. It was very cool looking and in pristine condition. I traded it toward a Hamer Artist. -- Darwin

The pickups in the T400 (same as M75T) are pretty high output in my guitar. Not sure what the difference is, but mine pushes an amp pretty well.

Sean, I wished I had spent more time as I didn't even adjust the pickup height. It may have been that the pickups were just too low. It was heavy, like a LP.-- Darwin

Yep, they are a bit on the heavy side...I think they were agathis(sp) or something like that. I think it was a very inexpensive and dense wood. Talk about heavy, my ASAT Dlx semi-hollow is the heaviest guitar I own. It's all alder, which gives it a different sound from the usual maple capped ones. People are very surprised when they pick up my semi-hollow guitar and it weighs more than what they think.
