John Toner asked me to post pics of this guitar so people can see how well the no pickguard look works.

then it blew up



got a new body made at g&l and you see the result. with the f-hole it can not blow up again, and i like the look.

no. sitting in the case. as you can see it happened from the inside. no external damage.

What was the temperature of the room it was sitting in? I wonder if the air inside the chamber heated up
and expanded, causing the wood to stress out. I notice you went with an F-hole for the replacement.

I've got a couple of semi-hollow G&L's without the f-hole and certainly don't want that to happen.

I do like the look without pickguard, perhaps a new option for the AC Bluesboy SH.

nobody could figure out what happened. the guitar sat with john toner for 3 months. i did not ask for the f-hole, but that is what they made. charged me 200 for the replacement body. i don't mind the f-hole though. it was sitting in the same air conditioned room as all my other guitars. john said he has been trying to get the no pick guard option to be offered, but no luck so far. hopefully after they see the picture, the upper management will get moving on it.

I would be very happy if none of my guitars had a pickguard. Everyone of them would look better without one. Why couldn't a new G&L just be sent with the pickguard in the case? Installing a pickguard after the fact is a relatively simple operation. It could be installed by the dealer if the buyer wanted it on. I would rather install a pickguard to cover scratch damage later, if necessary. JMHO

Louis, that is a beauty and is probably how they should come standard. It is gorgeous. I am going the speculate but I propose that there were a bug living inside and he had a severe case of GAS, like others on this board. He just got rid of it instantly and the rest is history!-- Darwin

I like the Bluesboy without a pickguard but the ASAT Classic looks good with one IMO. Something to do with the proportions and shapes of the pickups.

RE THE PICTURE - the g'tar on the right: how did you get the factory to stain the body like that? if G&L would do that, they should also stain (slightly) like the PRS staining I asked about in the "body wood cuts" thread. Who can I talk to there?

i made the guitar body on the right. well, more accurately, i bought it, and finished it myself. it has the gel stain, that doesn't soak in at the same rate in the different densities of wood. i love the results with that. it has a tru-oil gunstock finish on top of that.
