Skyhawk Modification?

Post by MinorPentatonic »

Well, I've recently become then new proud owner of an '87 Skyhawk Signature, but only learned after the fact that the previous owner made a slight modification to the knob setup. He moved the two tone knobs down next to each other on the other side of the pickup switch. The functionality of the knobs isn't decreased at all, but I am concerned with the possible value drop. Granted, I would've bought the guitar either way as I've been wanting a G&L for ages.

So, in short, does moving the tone knobs decrease the value, and if so, how much?

Thanks.
John.

can you post a pic? if new holes were drilled then any collector value will be nil imho. figure 50% of value if it was stock original as a general guide. if the pots were just rewired then there would be no impact on value as this could be easily reversed. that said, since you like the guitar just enjoy it. btw, an 87 signature would be early and a nice plus. have you pulled the neck to check the date stamps? also, you've probably already seen Greg's site but if not...
