Lunch Report Monday Sept 26

Post by darwinohm »

Its late so I will jump in. Missed lunch as I had my hearing aids tuned up today. Had them adjusted last week and he had the programming cables hooked up backwards. Didn't work worth a damn so I had them reset today and now I can hear what you are thinking.

I have seen some super G&Ls posted here recently, especially some lefties. There are some beauties owned by this group. I am without a camera until Friday and is isn't easy. Today I am going to talk about project guitars. Two years ago I bought a couple of new guitars at the GC that were damaged. One was a BC Rich JRV Deluxe with the real Floyd and the other a Fender Tele Thinline 72 reissue. The Tele had a large chip in the bottom by the strap pin and the JRV had been dropped on one point with damage to the wood, paint and binding. My grand daughter was with me and told me I should buy them and fix them. They made an offer and I bought them dirt cheap. They had been sitting around for two years like some other project guitars that I have. A week ago last Saturday, I stopped at AG&B and they had this new SC-2 that had my name on it. This motivated me to restore the two guitars on Monday, both of them turned out excellent, the JRV repair was undetectable and the Tele had a very slight, almost undetectable clear coat blend line which can be buffed out in a month. The bottom line is I doubled my money on them and made a full disclosure to the store as to what I had done. The Tele sold within two hours. I did the repair with nitro and it is great for touch up although will not last like poly. I will post pictures of the SC-2 this weekend. The Question, do you have project guitars and show them if they are done, and second question is would you buy a G&L that had restoration done to it if the owner disclosed what had been done??? By the way, I had a couple of G&Ls which i would have fixed but traded both of them and the stores considered them pristine. Saved me some work!

I received a video of our Sept 11 Edge show today and was very pleased with the show. I wish I knew how to post videos and I would post some cuts. Kelly, our new singer was awesome so I will try to figure this out and post in the future. One of our songs, "Mrs Brown You Have A Lovely Daughter" was change to "Mrs Brown You Have A Lovely Walker", understandable at our age and it got a lot of laughs. Have a great evening-- Darwin :happy0007:

Ha! Herman's Hermits was the first LP I ever got. I was four and asked my parents to get it. Last time I checked, Peter Noone was still doing his thing. Interesting fact: A young Jimmy Page played guitar on that album. Go check!

The SC-2 I have and which I posted a picture of the other day, was refinished in the original color (nitro). This was disclosed and the guitar was priced accordingly. I love that thing and so does my kid. This one was taken a couple of years ago:

Thanks for steppin' up today, Darwin. Hope you can get the vid-posting thing down. Would very much like to see you and your band. Also, you can then teach me how to post video. I might make some. Then you all could have a really good laugh. Ha! - ed

I repaired/modded a F**der acoustic a few months back:

I'd buy one of the Bigsby-modded ASAT's if the were the right orientation... That Southern Nightfly keeps popping-up in my head. I wish they at least made the P36D in Left-handed.

Cheers,

Thanks for filling the breach Darwin ... no LR would be unthinkable.

hearing aids My father's used them for years and constantly has similar experiences to yours when having them reset. I'm resigned to the fact that hearing aids will be in my future as I'm already aware of some hearing loss on the left side - partly genertic and partly through inadequate protection during my earlier years of regular gigging at maxed out volumes.

do you have project guitars I've built a partscaster from scratch but no project guitars. Always inspired though whenever I see Sybil - Spot's industrial looking black G&L.

would you buy a G&L that had restoration done No problems if its a sound job and the guitar plays right.

Video of our Edge show Looiking forward to seeing it ... just find any teenager and they'll havit up on youtube in a juffy.

cheers, Robbie

Thanks for reminding me about the hearing aids issue, Aussie.

Darwin, I intended to mention that my brother is a world-class audiologist. I know you don't live nearby, but if you ever have any questions, I can hook you two up. This is his business' web site:http://www.auditoryservices.com/. It has been the top rated hearing services company in the DC metro area for many years. - ed

Thanks for the posts folks.

Nice looking Fender Will, the Parker Southern is really a fun guitar and I use it for gigging. The neck is one of the best with the SS frets. Too bad lefties were not more available.

Ed, Good looking son and the guitar just tops it off. I am struggling on how to get the video broke up to post but it will take some time. I probably have the software to do it but don't have a clue on how to. Thanks for the link to your Bro. One of the singers is losing his hearing and people do not realize the affect it has on their performance until they correct it. It is one of those things that sneak up on you and I didn't realize how much of a difference it made until I fixed it.

Aussie, you are correct. If I had a young un in the house it would have been posted last night.-- Darwin
