Lunch: Pulled pork, green beans & okra
Guitars: Are locking tuners overrated? I've had them cut strings and I've had them let the strings slip. I believe a string that is properly wound around a tuner post works just fine. What's your opinion of locking tuners?
Weekend: Do you have anything fun planned for the weekend?
I'm still looking for someone to do the Lunch Reports next week.

Hey Sprinter,
TGIF start your engines.....
Pulled pork, YUM. We took some recent pork done in a smoker and made homemade BBQ pizza tonight that was fantastic! Will send a baked okra recipe that is killer.
Guitars: Are locking tuners overrated?
No way, love them. Have on a few and retro-fitted my ASAT Deluxe and think it was a definate upgrade. Locking tuners should be automatic optionon all G&L (if it is already forgive me and I 'll plead ignorance )
Anything fun planned for the weekend?
All about the family. Soccer game, hang with in-laws who are very cool, youngest daughters B-Day and I'm sure other things will come up.
Everyone have fun and make someone happy!!

Re: Friday 9/23/2011 Lunch Report
Hi Sprinter,
Lunch today was grilled sandwiches with smoked ham, cheese, tomatoes and home made chutney (or ketchup depending on which version of English you speak).
Locking tuners: I really like locking tuners, not because they hold tune better (I don't think they do), but because of how easy it is to change strings over. In my experience non-locking tuners are VERY rarely to blame for tuning issues. That is usually due to binding at the nut or the strings being poorly wound around the posts.
Weekend Plans: It's already the weekend here so I should be planning something before it's over. Spring has sprung and so have the weeds in my garden so I forsee some gardening duties in my immediate future. This will be followed by a beer-like beverage or 3. Then I plan to have a strum on my new squeeze. She's a beauty. Once I get some nickel pickup covers on her she'll be perfect.

Re: Friday 9/23/2011 Lunch Report
Speaking of locking tuners I just changed strings on my ASAT yesterday (gave the fretboard some lemon oil too) and boy oh boy they are a real dream when it comes to the string change, I spent more time trying to get my string through the holes in the saddle lock bridge than the individual tuning.

Hey Sprinter. I like your lunch. Go easy on the okra as you might on prunes. Just sayin'....
Locking tuners: Most over-rated "upgrade" ever. Just give me a post with a hole drilled across it and some good gears..... Great example of a solution in search of a problem if you ask me.
What was the question?
Oh, the weekend. It's half over here. My oldest kid is turning 10 on Monday (where DOES the time go, btw?), and who the hell wants to celebrate a birthday on a Monday? Plan A was to take the canoe to the (Potomac) river to explore Adventure Island (where the kid went to a camp), but due to lots of recent rains, the river wasn't at a safe level for recreational boating. So we went to plan B, which was to go to the Frederick County fair, which was fun. Afterward, we went to dinner with Noah's "Reading" teacher from last year, a great older woman who just retired and called a few weeks back because she liked my kid and wanted to do dinner with him and the family. So we did it.
Tonight, my wife and I are going to put together the electric scooter the boy has wanted for the past couple of years, and charge the battery up.
Tomorrow I may see a good High School buddy who is in town from Austin. My parents also want to see the grand-kids. My house is a mess and my wife is OTR, so I guess I'm flying by the seat of my pants the rest of the way. Cheers! - ed

Re: Friday 9/23/2011 Lunch Report
Sprinter, I much prefer locking tuners for changing strings. It is also much easier to remove the string and reuse also. I think the holding tune is debatable unless you have a vibrato bar. Then I am convinced the tuning is held better due to the lack of windings. The JRV Deluxe that I took off the garage wall after 2 years last Monday was still in very good tune. It had a locking nut and a Floyd. I don't care for either but it did stay in tune.-- Darwin
