Soon after I got my new Legacy HB in February, I realized the nut was not glued in. I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be like that or not, but it didn't seem to be a problem, so I didn't worry about it. I guess I've been doing more string bends on the lower frets recently, and more dramatic bends will cause the nut to move. So I'm realizing I need to glue it down...but I've got no idea of what kind of glue is best to use? Wood glue? Super glue? Elmers glue stick?
Muleya, if this is a new guitar, I would take it to the dealer for repair under warranty. Otherwise I would use a small amount of gel super glue in the bottom of the groove and position it immediately as you won't have much time for adjusting. That way it can be removed more easily if ever needed. Darwin
I've used a couple of drops of PVA craft glue (don't know what it's called in the US sorry) with success. You want that sucker to be easy to knock out again if you need to replace the nut, without taking any of the woodwork with it. Super glue would be a bit too permanent for my liking!
While I'm a bit tempted to take it to the dealer, that's a trip across town and a couple days without the guitar for what seems like a fairly simple task. I posted on a couple other guitar forums I'm on, and the overwhelming majority suggest a very small amount of wood glue, so I think I'll go that route, and try to err on the side of "too little" rather than "too much"!
Just a drop or 2 of super glue or wood glue on the bottom. My G&L last year had the nut come loose also. Definitely keep it too little not too much, you have to remove the nut one day.
