Ordered new ASAT Junior II ...

Post by Ivo »

Which will be a nice match with my ASAT Bluesboy.
This is the first G&L I bought, must have been around 2004. I can't recall why, but I wanted a BluesBoy, and I wanted it fast.
So I visited a G&L dealer, and he called the Dutch importer, who had one Bluesboy on stock. I ordered it unseen, I didn't even know what color it was. I now have six G&L's, and this one is still my favorite! It's a semi-hollow, very light, and will be a nice match with the new ordered Korina.

I'll post the rest of my collection, together with a short story about them:

This is my ASAT Z-3. It's a semi-hollow and a one piece birdseye maple neck with GNT. I like those necks. And I love those Z-coils.

Followed by my ASAT Classic S. A solid body, LPB , arm- and rear body contour, and birds eye neck.
I like this one very much, because for some reason it play's very light. Bending is like using a lighter gauge strings. I never understood why this is, I wish all my guitars played that way...

Image

Then I wanted humbuckers, so an ASAT Deluxe was on my list, but these are very expensive here in the Netherlands. I was lucky and found this one new at a dealer at half the price.
It's a Semi hollow with birdseye neck.

Recently I found a Legacy, the Phyllis model Blondie. I always liked the blonde Legacy's, and found this one at a dealer's clearance. Bought is brand new for a price lower than a standard Legacy. This one feels very comfortable, round and smooth. It's number 085/100.

Finally the ASAT Junior II. I'll post an image when it arrives. Should be by the end of this month. :)

Stunning collection, and great photos too. The cases look particularly lush!

I too have a Classic S that plays easier than my others. I can offer no explanation as to why and I expect it will remain a mystery until the day I die.

They are all beautiful!

Is that an ash top on the Bluesboy?

You sure know how to shop for bargains!

P.S. you still need an ASAT special to round out your collection! :)

Thanks for the compliments about the collection and photographs!

@Jwebsmall:
I'm not finished yet! But your are right, it would be more logical to start with a Special. But now I have something to look forward to. ;)
About the top on the Bluesboy: It should be swamp ash, but it looks weird. It was my first G&L, so I thought it was normal, but I have never seen it on a G&L since. Does anyone have a top like that?

About the photographs: There is a lot of detail, gradation and texture going lost during downsizing and compression, which is too bad.
Here is a detail out of the original picture, which gives you a better look at the wood on the Bluesboy:

I think it is one of the top five most beautiful guitars I've ever seen.
You really lucked out buying that with seeing it first.

I've never seen ash that looks like that. I thought it might have been one of the Spalted Maple Bluesboys, but it doesn't have quite the right figuring. Perhaps its a maple top on an ash back?

Thanks Darwin.

Blarg, you must be right about the maple top. I thought ASAT Bluesboy's only came with ash on these finishes. It's funny that G&L uses whatever they like.

Do you have a picture from the side of the guitar showing the top
edge along side the back/body?

I have my ear on this Bluesboy above which has a maple top, V neck
and is semi hollow. It sounds heavenly.

Is your Bluesboy solid body?

The semi-hollow bluesboy with a maple top - is like
music in heaven.
