Thought I would step up.
Lunch-turkey, cheese sandwich with mucho sliced yellow peppers. also a fresh peach-yum.
I just built a baritone on a tele frame. Took it to shop to have the first nut installed and set up. it is esquire style with a SD hot rails pup. allparts neck that was sprayed by a local guy. more on the projects page about it when I get it back from the shop. I have only a faint idea how it is going to sound. I had it set up with D'addario's 14-68 baritone set. I really want to milk the longer neck.
why did I built a baritone? a few reasons-I saw a band on craigslist looking to replace its bass player and they suggested that a baritone might cover the low end. I don't want to join their band but it got me thinking about what kind of different things I could do and experiment with a baritone. Also-I wanted a guitar project but didn't need another "regular" guitar. I have two ASATs that I love so there was only room for something else, like a baritone. when I play bass guitar, I usually approach it as a guitar player-chord progressions, etc. so maybe a baritone will suit me fine. Also-I thought a baritone would help me approach guitar in a different way, my band is on hiatus and I still play everyday but mostly, working on triads and simple harmonies. Playing a baritone, B to B. may help me with fresh ideas.
what do you do when you are in a funk, ie, not feeling like you are progressing or enjoying playing the way that you'd like to.
by the way, I have an Asat bridge pup that I was going to throw in the baritone but with the extra foam (?) and copper plate, it wouldn't fit in the cavity of my tele body. bummer.

Pico, good to see your LR today. That is an interesting project and I am wondering how the intonation is going to work out in regard to the distance from the bridge to the end of the neck. You probably have that all figured out. Let us know how this thing works. Yesterday, I saw Paulette Carlson (Hwy 101) at the fair. A local Minnesota gal (Winsted) and her songs use a lot of baritone notes. Her lead player was using a Tele and a pedal for the baritone notes and also a whammy pedal at times. They worked very well for him.
I believe we all get in a rut at times. I find that the Gr 20 sysnth has given me some new challenges and it is interesting. I am primarily a Bass player but have concentrated on guitar in recent years-- Darwin

PP, nice of you to step up.
Several years ago I jammed with someone who had a baritone, and he occasionally used it. All I can remember is that the different frequency range gave certain songs a distinct feel to them. I never play his baritone myself though. I've also heard that surf guitar players sometimes play baritones.
Several things I do when I am in a funk:
- put aside my guitars for a week or two and then start up again
- find something old that I've always wanted to learn and learn it, or find something new and learn that
- noodle around on a guitar and see if I can come up with something interesting sounding. Recently I decided to learning a fingering pattern for the m7b5 chord (so called 7 chord). I found one pattern that I can manage to play and since then I have been trying to put together chord progressions incorporating the chord.
I never realized that we live in the same town. If that Trinity in your avatar is yours I like to see whether you want to get together so I can check it out. I have an LE that perhaps may be of interest to you to check out. I also have a small number of other interesting guitars that can be fun to pick on.

I have thought about a Baritone for a long time. The only ones I could see out there were Cheap guitars that where all different shapes, or expensive Fender Jaguar Baritone. I was nearly ready to order the parts from Wormoth when I discovered the Fender VG Strat that I could get a synth Baritone (along with a few other basic sounds) cheaper and I did not have a good Strat. The Fender works well but I have just purchased a new Raines 7 string, Tele shape.
The only reason I got this guitar was a review by Scott Grove on YouTube and thought I would give it a go. Last week Matt Raines put his last ever up on eBay for sale and should be on its way to Australia shortly. When I get it I will put a little review up for others to comment on.

Baritone guitars are way cool, and an Esquire bari sounds fantastic. Really looking forward to some pictures of that one. I came across these guys the other week, he uses it well. Danelectro's are great bari guitars.

When I get stuck in a dead zone I play along to heaps of songs and work out any licks that grab my attention. That usually helps and I'm guaranteed to get drawn in at some point.

Oddly enough, I'd never seen a baritone in action before this summer and then, <WALLOP> back-to-back players on a Friday and Saturday night, one with K.D. Lang and another with Brian Wilson, both playing Danelectros. I was impressed. I don't know that I'd want to step up to one at this point, but maybe in a couple of years when I'm looking for a new challenge...

Thanks for the replies guys.
Darwin-the neck I used is an Allparts baritone neck, designed to drop right into a tele body. I didn't take any measurements but the shop did when I dropped it off. I guess I was confident that it was going to work out since the neck was specifically built for a tele body. I would have loved to use an Asat body but you know how that goes, necks are hard to come by and short of getting one custom made, I don't think I was going to find a baritone neck that would work for a G&l body.
Kit-This is funny. we have met. I used my real name, Paul, on the old Gbl page but changed it when I registered here. I was at your place a few years ago with my 25th Anniversary model (I don't have it anymore, though I am keeping an eye out for it) I sold you that RC-2 loop pedal. hope you got some use out of it. I sold my boomerang III loop pedal to finance my baritone guitar. the boomerang III is a killer looper with lots of features, way more than I ever needed. I just like to throw a couple chords down and jam over them. my buddy is going to sell me his boomerang II (the older version). it will still do more than I need but will cost me half of what I sold my boomerang III for. we will have to hook up again some day, maybe with Boogie Bill. The Trinity in my avatar is mine. I recently replaced the neck with a brand new maple one from G&L. it's dated this year but somewhat as a surprise, it did not have the new serial number tag. I now have the exact same neck on both of my ASATs. #1 C.
Stagecoach-thanks for the Raines video link. if I could have scored one of those on the cheap, I may have done that instead of building one. I am with you on your rationale. the Danelectros I have seen were not great quality and I didn't want to spend a chunk on a Fender version (if I could have even found one used) Not sure I am ready for a 7 string yet but that will probably be next, way down the road.
Blarg-Not the kind of music I regularly listen to but I really dug the tune, especially the singer's voice. by the way, If you are still looking for a ferrule block, there is a guy selling some gold ones right now on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/G-L-Asat-String ... 918wt_1177 Not cheap but hey, you're worth it.
CGT-Sounds like you had a killer weekend.
