Australian Country Music

Post by blargfromouterspace »

Following on from a post in the lunch report section from a few weeks ago. Here's a couple of my favourite tunes from Australia's best know and best named country musicians, Slim Dusty.

Great stuff Jamie! Love the chord progression of the 'Indian Pacific', can totally relate to the 'I had more dinners than there are dinners...', and at first was thinking these people were playing some weird game of 'Chicken' while watching 'Lights on the Hill' before it finally sunk in you drive on 'the other' side ;)

Thanks, Jamie. When it comes to country I much prefer the more traditional songs that sound like these here.

Jamie:

Nice to get a country perspective on the good ole G&LDP. Are you still wih the Prarie Oysters? I just picked up Mamma Tried by Merle Haggard. Next up, Workin' Man Blues.

Blarg, cool country just like country should be. I am reminded that you dudes and dudettes still drive on the wrong side of the road. A few years ago a Gold Wing enthusiast for the land of Oz was visiting the US, left a bar after some cheer and hit a car head on. Sad situation.

I like your avatar. I would like to see the pictures of who came with them. Especially the one furtherest out on the headstock. There is a lot of material in that one. Best part is they are my favorite color Red!! Show us the rest of the story! I could use a heart flutter tonight. Ginny would have to slap me along side the head and accuse me of having too many cold ones. The only concern that I have is did it screw up the balance of your ASAT??????????

I'm glad that people have enjoyed these tunes.

Jos - I agree, that chord is just great. So is that riff, and the train feel on the drums, and the lyrics...

Darwin - The story is in THIS THREAD from a few weeks ago now. Scroll down about 3/4 of the way for a full pictorial report.... They certainly upset the balance of the guitar but I didn't care - who would!?!? :D Actually, at one point there was a guy from the crowd tugging on ones of them and I got a bit scared that the tuning key would come loose or, even worse, break the headstock off. It didn't even go out of tune. "G&L.... built to last!"

Tom: I'm still with the Prairie Oysters. Its a fun group to play with. Workin' Man Blues is my favourite Hag' song, that solo is one of the all time greatest and most recognizable.

And guys - the left hand side of the road is the best side to drive on. I've tried driving on the right and it doesn't work :confused0007:

Great tunes Blarg, the singer reminds me of someone I can't put my finger on though. And it is bothering me.
