NGD Weekend Poll - Very Late Lunch Report for Friday/Sat

Post by zapcosongs »

I'm Ed and I'm an idiot.

The past couple of weeks, I had noticed the term "NGD" in a few posts. Hmmm....

Question 1: Who, like me, will admit to having to look the term up? I feel totally dweebic. Then I had my "of course!" moment, but I still feel old and out of touch.

Question 2: Lots of folks are taking vacations. Let's hear about your most memorable one. What made it special? (btw, "memorable" does NOT have to mean "best").

G&L Content: Which of your G&L instruments would you like to have which other member here check out, and why?

That's all for now. Enjoy your weekend! - ed

PS: I just had a ham and Swiss on a toasted English muffin, with Romaine lettuce, Helman's mayo, French's yellow mustard, with lightly salted potato chips on the side and a slice of good cantaloupe. Spring water to wash it down. Sounds good until you realize that I was really lusting prawns....

Hey Ed,

Just plugged in for the first time today, glad to see yer name and questions.

Lunch for me today was dreaming of a menu...tooooo many meetings an d conference calls.

Question 1: Who, like me, will admit to having to look the term up?
Let's get this out to all, i am the poster child for computer illiteracy. LOL, OMG may as well be MIC...KEY MO-USE

Question 2: Lots of folks are taking vacations. Let's hear about your most memorable one. What made it special?
Most memorable would be North Dakota / South Dakota trip a few years back - Badlands, Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Sturgis, Lake Sylvan, Wall Drug, Devils Tower Wyoming (Close Encounters for the uninitiated) and even did a wagon train ride one day, and more that i did not say. It's not just wide open road, giveitatry, even youngsters love it!

G&L Content: Which of your G&L instruments would you like to have which other member here check out, and why?
Oooh Ed, that is a tough call. Do i get three strikes?
ASAT Z3 (with Will Ray bridge p-up - basically a Will Ray without the bender), the ASAT Jr, and my parts JD-5 with late 80's neck and body (Jerry Donahue ASAT with assistance from the honorable Mac and woodfixer  ) Based on the one-off quality I gotta go with the JD-5

Oh yeah, with lack of lunch i just had late night snack of colby jack, ham and crushed red pepper quesadilla. Munchies rule...

Hi Ed, thanks for stepping in.

1. I had no idea what LMFAO meant until I Googled it. LOL, and ROFL always confuse me too. When I text on my cell phone I never use abbreviations 'cos I can't remember them. The person receiving my text messages automatically knows I'm old without ever meeting me.

2. As it happens I'm on vacation now in Tasmania. My most memorable 'vacation' was a trip to India about 10 years ago. Those who have been to India would know that the word vacation is incompatible with the place. On TV India looks like a slightly different, exotic variation of where you normally live. But when you go there you realise it exists in it's own parallel universe. Nothing quite works how you are used to, even though it looks vaguely the same on the surface e.g. traffic, toilets, booking a flight or hotel, buying anything at all. It makes it a unique, frustrating, unforgettable, sensory assault of a destination. The only way to remain sane is to leave your preconceived Western ideas behind and go with the flow. When you leave India you wonder 'what was all that about then?' and then a few months later start planning another trip there.

3. I'd like Boogie Bill to check out my S-500, just to hear how it sounds in the hands of someone (a) with skill and (b) a great appreciation of Leo's S-type guitars. If Bill was unavailable I'd like to hear you have a go on it Ed, 'cos I don't believe you're as inept on a guitar as you think. :D

Thanks for the responses guys. Keep 'em coming!

Just got up and I'm off to an early-morning swim meet. I will circle back here later in the day (most likely after the kiddies are in bed) and will respond to yours. In the meantime, enjoy the day! - ed

PS: Sam, read question #3 again, lol (laughing out loud;+)

Hey Ed.

I have never had to look up NGD, because well, I frequent a few forums where it is not uncommon to see one a day.

Not the vacationing sort, infact I have never been on a proper vacation, ever.

Not sure I feel the need to get my guitar in anyones hand. No need really, I would let folks around play it (my one rule is if you overpick a lot I'll probably shoot you though, I don't like pick swirls. ) I have notice 'pick swirl' may not be from picks really as my one guitar has some, and yet I don't overpick... Oddities indeed.

Give me one night with that orange beauty and I'll swirl it up for you good - I'll throw some buckle rash in too depending on how carried away I get :D

I'd like to get any of my guitars in Will Ray's hands.

You would have the belt buckle, even with your lack of cowboy hats, you have to at least give a few hints what you will be playing :happy0007:

sirmy: There is something to be said for the element of surprise... btw, I too am baffled by the swirls. You'd think I played guitar with the Who!
No matter how much I strum straight down and up, there's a swirl to the price we pay. I mean, strange things may have happened at Roswell, but this phenomenon is clearly deserving of further investigation! (btw, you NEED a vacation. Trust me on this one). Ha!

blarg: ANY guitar in Will's hands would be a treat. I'd be thrilled to have him check out any of mine. Hell, I'd be thrilled if he just checked in here. I really miss him stopping by....

Craig: Paul's jest was funny indeed!

Paul: You're holding your own in left field. Bully! (btw, I thought NGD meant "nitrocellulose guitar destroyer" - so what do I know?)

Hope everybody's having a little fun this weekend. - ed

For sam and Philby

Post by zapcosongs »

sam: We're kindred spirits in a lot of ways - like with computer illiteracy. Also, I've wanted for a long time to check out the Badlands. The name itself I find compelling. It also seems like it would be a cool region to test survival skills (having no cellphone service and only one guitar, for example). You tease us a bit, so I'd love to hear more about your memorable, uh, trip - offline if appropriate ;+). Finally, as much as I want to like it, colby-jack leaves me cold... Give me a quality Cheddar any day!

Philby: You text on your cell phone? Man, you got me beat. I use mine for talking. If it's important, call me. Otherwise, I'll get your email soon enough.... Tasmania? You are a lucky, lucky man. I can think of a souvenir you could send me. Seriously, I've done a bit of reading on the place and have seen some photos, and I'm considering putting the island on my bucket list (along with becoming proficient on guitar - so don't waste your guitar-sharing on me. I am a modest man, yes, but I'm serious here. There ARE some things I have a knack for. For example, I'd be proud to have you hear an original song or two. But because I can neither play or sing adequately, well, there's the rub!)

btw: I'd love to hear more about India. I visited Morocco when I was fifteen, and it gave me some perspective as well.....

Thanks for participating, gentlemen. - ed

Ed, just back from one of the hottest gig in my life. It was outdoors , mid 90 F and the crowd was into it like I haven't seen for a long time. They seemed to know the words to every song!

The terms we see now days blows me away. I don't text, don't intend to and I don't understand half of what they say, So i have one of my own which they probably couldn't figure our. It is DSLH, which could mean 'Dumb Sh** Lives Here"

Most of my days are vacations so I really don't need any more. I just hope that you young dudes don't take too much, Keep that Social Security cash coming in so I get paid!!!.

There are many on this board who could probably really make my ASAY Special sing. They would never admit it but If it were a Lefty, I'll bet SouthpawGuy could cook it. Blarg has that Tele twang style that would heat it up. There are a bunch of sleepers here.

A side not Ed, yesterday after noon, when we were stetting up, Steve did a few lick on my ASAT Special. A pro blues player came out of the bar and said "let me see that Tele, I have never heard tone like that". He was amazed to see it was a G&L ASAT Special. The best part is that it was connected to my wireless into two bass amps. It was hot, much more that I can make it sound. He was doing some progressive jazz stuff with the drummer.! Hope you had a good weekend and didn't blow it by looking up all these terms people are using!!-- :ugeek: Darwin

Never had much luck getting good sound out of a guitar through my bass amp, always a bit wooly to me. As far as 'progressive jazz' goes, you mean fusion?

Hey Ed,

Long weekend and now I see the errors in my ways :shocked028:

Now I will change my response... still rolling with the parts JD-5 and would put that in your hands knowing you are an ASAT fan and let you see what this set up can do. After more thought I would also love to hear my modded ASAT Deluxe rocking out by jefF-100. :alright:

Hope the weekend was fun for ya.

Thanks Sam. I'd love to try your JD - but will NEVER do it a lick of justice. Now, you on my '86 ASAT - that would be something. Or maybe you'd appreciate my double-bound Bluesboy. Then again, when I'm playing my SC-3 (first style), I wish that everyone could have the chance to play it.

I too would like to hear Jeff rock out your Deluxe. Would like if he'd stop by. Another fine G&L enthusiast he. Although I'm in no position to buy any guitar right now (nor do I need any), an ASAT Deluxe would be my next guitar for sure! Make mine solid bodied, will ya? Thanks for checking in. - ed

Hey Ed,

Only Jerry Donahue, Will Ray and a select few can do it justice I only try to make the bad guitar players feel like they can outplay someone.

BTW, I have lusted over yer double-bound Bluesboy after first sight. That is one beauty. :alright: maybe my 62 re-issue's are my wannabe Zapco editions!!

We know Jeff is out there, must be on tour....

NGD??
Hadn't a clue...
I read it as new guitar discussion.

Even after looking it up, I'm sticking to it

Hey Ed,

What a great set of questions! After thursdays "new guitar day" discussions I would totally love to get my new sc2 into GDub's hands - I think he would totally be one over once he had it sparkling under the stage lights! :luv:

gw is truly a fantastic rhythm player and would certainly make your SC sing. A fine thought, even if it's Monday now...! - ed
