Lunch Report Thursday July 14th, 2011 - Ohhhh Yeah NGD
Hey Guys,
It has finally happened, about an hour ago i got the call. The SC-2 has landed.
Lunch - no time to eat! Must play!
G & L topic...... Is the metal flake too much for you?
There are many traditionalists who won't dig this finish, but for me it is just what the doctor ordered. I really wanted something to stand out and be different and i think that this fits the bill. I will put together a full review this weekend and post it next week in the discussion section, but here are some pics for you L/R followers.
Talk to you all soon

Damn that finish is sexy. I love metal flake finishes. I would ideally like an orange metal flake, but I don't think that exists.

Scott, that is drop dead gorgeous and decked out with locking tuners. A beautiful color and the flake is dynamite. It looks like it is a quarter inch deep!-- Darwin

Thanks for picking up LR duties today, Scott. And what a topic! That is quite the picture with the swimming pool in the background; sparkles everywhere. I just cannot convince my wife that sparkles are beautiful. So getting that turquoise Will Ray model and some gold sparkle model to complement the John Jorgenson Signature is going to be hard. G&L does such a marvelous job on these sparkle finishes. Oh well ...
Great guitar man. Enjoy it!

G&L does some of the best flake I've seen and the blue flake on your SC2 is both outstanding and all-out tits. The smaller SC body really showcases the flake well and if it plays and sounds as good as it looks, which I have little doubt, then you have a real keeper. Though I would imagine that guitar would sell in a heartbeat. I keep mooning over this gold-flake ASAT at The Bros'. As I said, G&L does flake really well!

Congrats on the new axe. I love the flake, I think that is one of the cool things about electric guitars as jewelry, they can be pretty subtle showing beautiful wood, or really bling outrageous.
Love the rosewood fingerboard with that color as well.
jonx, That gold sparkle deluxe with bigsby is sweet, too.

Wow! I don't know whether I want to dive into the pool or into the lush depths of your SC's finish. Do I have to choose?
And what time is the party!?? Anyhow, congratulations! - ed

Wow. I didn't think I'd like a flaked SC-2 but I REALLY dig it. It's fabulous. Blingy, but in the nicest possible way. Congratulations.
All that's missing is a bikini babe posing with it.

+1. Do you best to get one in the next photoPhilby wrote:All that's missing is a bikini babe posing with it.
That is fantastic Scott. It looks fantastic, makes you wonder why they hadn't offered it before. Nice to see you got the hard tail model too. That thing is going to rock and stay in tune forever. Let us know what your band mates think of it. I'm a huge fan of flake finishes. My girlfriend has asked if we use the word 'flake' because its more masculine than 'glitter'....
Enjoy that guitar!

Pretty sure they use flake, to distinguish between 'metallic' and 'pearl' finishes which use varying degrees and sizes of shiny metal bits. Pearl being the finest is my recollection, flakes being quite large. Heck some metal flakes get very large, like Stu Hamm Urge bass. That was a real gem under the lights with Satch.blargfromouterspace wrote:+1. Do you best to get one in the next photoPhilby wrote:All that's missing is a bikini babe posing with it.

Scott all I can say is WOW
That color flake comes off amazing on the SC-2 body and the white MFD's help it to just sparkle.
Nice one!

I respect your ability to call that one correctly in advance. Furthermore, my SB-2 (the bass version of your guitar back in '84) has the red finish and I have never liked the color. I would still take it over the sparkle though, no question. I actually find the four bolt more disturbing than the sparkle, but then again, I dig my SB-2 that I've owned for about a decade despite the color. Paint is way down my priority list. I'm into sound. There are many traditionalists who won't dig this finish

Beautiful guitar. I love the flake finish, would love to have a red flake Legacy-body with an ebony board and matching headstock. Already got a nickname for it: "Dorothy's shoes."
But that blue....wow!

Hey Boys,
Thanks for the replies, it is fun to read the opinions of the biggest G & L fans. When i picked the guitar up there was some random guy in the shop that saw the guitar when it was pulled out of the case and he said " You'd have to be pretty good to play a flashy guitar like that!" It totally made the long wait worth it. I got a chance to teach about 6 lessons on it yesterday and was nothing but impressed with the playability, it fit like an old glove.
Jamie, I will have to check with Craig to see about posting a listing for a bikini babe in the marketplace section! But unless it was my wife i think she would shoot the idea down faster than we can say bikini.
So for now i will enjoy my "glittery" guitar and take it to rehearsal on tuesday to get some vids for my full review.

I like
Matching headstock would be overkill imo.
