Pole Pieces on 1980 G&L L-1000 Bass

Post by mburduck »

Guys,

Great to be here!

I have one question: were the pole pieces on the 1980 G&L L-1000 basses allen heads or slotted?

Thanks!

Mike

PS Yes, my memory has failed me on this one!

From Greg Gagliano's G&L L-1000 (1980) webpage:
The earliest L-1000s (1980) have large allen head pole pieces. These were changed to slot head pole pieces in 1981-82 and then to small allen head pole pieces by 1983.
Hope this helps.

It sure does help! I now know that the 1980 I just found has the original pickup as the pickup has the LARGE allen head pole pieces. I just could not remember! My memory went with my hair, I guess. Thanks a bunch! Now once my guy does a set-up for me I'll figure if I'm going to keep the bass..... I love low action......

I'm guessing the bass you have is probably a keeper.

I have an '81 and I don't play bass. But I know enough to realize when I have a good thing. These seem to be appreciating in value, btw, unlike many of my investments. :shocked003:

Regardless, welcome and enjoy! - ed
