The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

I'm new but my s-500 is not

Post by brandofamily »

I purchased my s-500 in 1987 when I graduated from college. For numerous reasons I don't really play it. I'm wondering what it's worth.
Dark sunburst paint, black pick guard, light neck with dark fret board (not sure of type of woods) roller type nut. No modifications from as purchased. There are a few marks in the finish, but it's pretty close to as new....
If this is not appropriate to post here I'm sorry.

Welcome! :greet:

It's fine to post asking about what a G&L instrument might be worth. But if you do decide to sell it, do not post your ad on the
G&L Forum (aka G&LDP). We have a Marketplace for posting ads.

It would also help if you could post a photo or two of this instrument, so that those who would like to provide a guesstimate
of worth would be able to based upon those photos.

See READ ME FIRST: guitarsbyleo.com History and G&LDP Guidelines and READ THIS FIRST - G&L Porn!!! for information on posting photos on the G&LDP.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I'll get some pics to post. Can I post them here or on the other board?

You can post them here or, if you like, on the G&L Porn!!! sub-forum.

What other board are you referring to?

Thanks,

Actually since you are asking for opinions on the worth of this guitar, you
should post it here as a followup to your original post.

Thanks,

Sorry it took so long to post pics but here is my S-500 (3 tone sunburst I believe)
For some reason the finish got soft (G&L tech thinks our cat peed in the closet where the guitar was stored) and the Axe Sock that was on the guitar left marks in the finish. It's "dried" and solid now. I buffed it by hand as they suggested. The 2nd and 3rd pics show the result of the finish issue and I dent from.. well use...

I also found my original receipt from Snukst Music in Chicago, sadly no longer there. I paid $750 with the G&L Deluxe Tolex hardshell case and a professional "set up" by the owner himself.

Here's a pic of the "roller bearing nut," and the serial number:

I hope, I'm at a secure distance. :)

Yeah, it looks real great, just the weight could be somehow less. It shows 10.2 lbs, but what the heck, my L2000 is even heavier. ;)

Big surprise it was, when I looked below the pickguard, there's no need for that and if there weren't these screw holes, I wouldn't have put it back:
