Wether or not to agree with the wars we and our allies are fighting at the moment please take a little time today to honor the brave men and women past and present who serve our great country.



So, How's your weekend going? I attended a party at my sisters on Saturday, I had a small group of friends and neighbors over to my place last night for a jam and fireworks display and today is going to be a sit around an relax day to wind down and get ready for a busy work week, My nephew did a great rendition of the Star Bangled banned, Hendrix style, using my old F-100 blasting through the cranked tiny terror hooked to a 2X12 cab loaded with celestion Gold speakers, the kid rocked the house down!

Which G&L have you found the best for high gain rocken? I've tried a bunch over the years and finaly settled on the F-100 for my rocken needs.

I only have an ASAT special, but aside from really high gain work (which it does very well) I use it over my humbucker guitar for most rock tones. If I dial up 'edge' mode I can get sweet Judas Priest type tones (and I am seeing them in Nov. Up the irons!) I have no trouble rocking hard on single coils, infact I think I prefer singles. I am kicking around ideas for the maddest 7 string strat you have ever seen, when the wife gives me permission to hop I most certainly will too. We are talking armed to the teeth amazing at that.

Happy 4th to everybody indeed. For once, summer here in Seattle seems to have started before Independence Day. Just did a whole bunch of yard work and are taking a break right now. Still have to fix the burners in the grill before a proper 4th can be celebrated.

The G&L I use when I really want to rock out is my PRS 245 Sunburst. OK, guess that doesn't count I mean my 25th Anniversary model or F-100 Return Edition; it is a complete toss-up between the two. But you'll notice that all mentioned models have buckers. if sustain is important, I stick with the PRS; if you want the sonic bliss of MFD's, take the F-100 or 25th (both have the same pups anyway) with a small preference for the former since you can split the pups for some twang.

In all the years I have been playing, I have only sold 1 guitar. I gave a no-name acoustic away to my nephew, and trashed the first electric (or POS) I ever owned. But the sole exception on selling/trading, has been my '82 Gibson LP Standard for a PRS Artist II. Never regretted the deal. Although it was the realization of a dream, when I finally came to my senses I realized I again was holding a POS, but a very expensive one this time. But I foresee a couple of other sell-offs when I (finally) upgrade my Ovations steel string acoustic and Tacoma mandolin to 'equivalent' Collings models.

I only have ASAT Classics, but you can rock out on them too. I don't do a lot of high gain rock these days but do enjoy playing Black Sabbath riffs. They're the best ever written.

I like the sound of that cab with the Celestion golds. I have a one in an old amp and it's a great speaker. I'm currently planning on sticking it in a 212 cab with an Eminence Delta 12A (an electrovoice EVM12L clone). Can't wait til I have money for that one.....

Sirmy - Judas Priest are AWESOME live. Old men, yes, but boy do they rock out still!

Define rockin', dude! I use a Legacy to rock out because the "rock" sound because it's sharp.

This weekend? Swim meets very early Sat and Sun mornings. Had to cancel our annual neighborhood pancake supper/breakfast due to weather. One kid is running a fever - took him to the ER clinic and was relieved it wasn't Strep.

My first G&L (an ASAT Special that I no longer own, unfortunately) was a rock machine. I've yet to experience a G&L humbucker (except for the one in my L1K - which shouldn't count), but as you may know, that SC-3 you sold me can handle high-gain duties admirably. I cranked that Rarebird hard through my Fender Super Sixty just tonight (I didn't join the rest of my family at rain-besotted fireworks this evening, electing to stay home, do some overdue gardening, and rocking out a bit). Nice start. - ed

West Side, I gigged two days this weekend and it is tough on a guy my age but it was a blast as usual. We had a great 4Th.

Like you I have traded several guitars and have owned over 60 in recent years. I have owned 16 G&Ls and still have 12. I usually trade only to upgrade to something I really want and become pickier recently.

I like a Legacy for R&R but the ASAT Special will do the job well. Keep in mind that I usually play Bass but when I do lead work, they are what I often use. I also use a Tele sometimes. The F-100 Return would be awesome but I do not gig with that.-- Darwin
