Dia numero quatro: Lunch will be the better half of a gigantic sub sandwich. Drink as of yet, unknown... So, it will be a pretty exciting meal-o-rama.

Non-G&L Topic: Exotic body/neck woods. Man, there are some crazy woods out there! I'm sure it's not a sign that rainforsts are being pilaged, but hey... Body blanks are accessible in woods like: black korina/limba, purpleheart, tiger stripe myrtlewood, african mahogany, cocobolo rosewood, bubinga/african rosewood, bloodwood, claro walnut, camphor, spalted black korina/limba. I should know today if an S-Type in vintage(1930's) 1 piece spalted korina is going down. This project has been put off for a couple years now, but it's finally coming together. If so, I won't see it 'till December. Super light too. Fingers crossed... What do you think. Besides looks, have they been proven to be good tone woods? Korina is light and been done before, so...

G&L Topic: I'm going to order a new G&L. I was going to grab a used Special, but ordering a new one won out. There are many new options to choose from. It would be great if the options page acted as a form and you could fill it out and either print, email or forward it to an authorized gealer. Just sayin'...

a lot of companies still don't get how to optimize their site and pages to best organize content, and streamline the decision and purchasing process. your suggestion is a natural and could positively impact things beyond a simple sale, and open up a lot of possibilities. about wood -- i personally like burled mahogany, koa and walnut but there are so many great looking and sounding tone woods available (for a price) that it's almost too hard to choose. 70 year old splated korina (white limba?) sounds really nice and i'm looking forward to seeing a pic. sounds like a sweet project overall.

In january I ordered a special deluxe.

I totally agree they need a flash app that walks you thru all the bits and in the end winds up at the guitar you want, like the car guys do.

I ordered, asat special deluxe, natural gloss finish, wide c neck (12 degree radius), ebony fretboard, graphtec nut, SS frets, locking tuners, black pickup covers. I would have loved black tuners and black bridge on it, but no such option. Neck with gloss finish so headstock would match the body. Guitar is outstanding. It was pricey and I don't know the details of what each option cost, but I understand the SS frets is very expensive, probably due to the fact that they have to plek the SS.

Jon: Yeah, a simple form would be be helpful in selection and ordering too. I believe it is white limba. The spalt option recently came up. Before that, I had no idea there was a spalted korina...

Exotic woods, I have a guitar coming in made of walnut/cherry/wenge on the body (wenge is on top) with a neck made of maple and ebony, with a streaky macassar board and a wenge headstock overlay. Should be in next week. How is that for exotic (tickle your fancy? ). I like to think it is my duty to protect beautiful guitars from Darwins wall, from which they will never return.

I hear you ordering new, I did the same last year. I like it my way.

So many woods........ I love Korina guitars, ever since I played a really nice, really expensive Flying V reissue thing a few years ago. My understanding is that Korina is the name of the finish, and white limba is the name of the wood. Somewhere along the line it got confused and now the two are interchangeable, at least in guitar talk.

The Fender Custom Shop have a form on their website showing ordering options and the prices each option. It's frightening! When I enquired about custom ordering a G&L a change of colour of the pick guard from white to creme was going to cost $50! Double binding costs around the $400 mark which is fair - there's a lot of work involved in that process. GOT neck is pretty expensive too. Had I known the cost of the potions when I was ordering my bluesboy I would have scrimped. Sometimes it's better not to know.

Blarg: I have a Korina from similar aged wood, but spalt too? It looks like I'll know tomorrow. Their Custom Shop has some type of form? They show prices too? Technically, wouldn't that create a guitar price at MSRP? Maybe one w/out prices would be better...

The cherry in this one is just a 'reveal layer' 1/8th inch thick. It is sandwiched between the wenge and walnut. The way he does his forearm cut standard, he cuts through the top wood into the body wood, so instead of 2 tone in the arm cut I have 3. I also have a pin stripe like binding effect around the edge, just below the roundover on the top. Maybe even slightly involved in it.

If you google 'S7G wenge' you will get a couple thumbs google still has of the axe, I have since taken the pics down, may post some once I get it , briefly.

Exotic woods... a Zebrawood ASAT variety is one I would like to get. Something about the look of zebrawood is appealing to me, and I have no idea how it compares with other woods sound wise. Tim had a zebrawood Z-2 that is very cool.

The Classic Custom has had many great reviews here that lead me to put that before a Special.

Superhawk re-issue, sounds a bit lit the tribby ASAT HB with a different body. Anyone know if the Superhawk will be US or Tribute?

I had a Carvin koa guitar which had a solid koa body and neck with an ebony board. I loved the wood, but ultimately the guitar was just so so. I sold it on eBay a few years ago.

Will, late postings as I just got back today. I really like exotic grained woods. A lot of them are heavy in weight. I have noticed that the recent Alder bodies are much heavier that they used to be. I have had a couple of Koa woods but I still like flamed or quilted tops of Maple.

I would like if G&L had a build you guitar page like Taylor has. It even shows it in the color you select.-- Darwin
