Lunch Report Wednesday June 29, 2011

Day three: ...found some matches and caught two rats; it was a good day. [excerpt from my screenplay "Trapped II: Electric Boogaloo"] Just kidding, but it does feel like I'm writing a journal or something like that... Yeah, late lunch report today. The temp is rising around here and I've been running around town, but lunch is a slice of quiche lorraine, iced tea and that's about it.

Non-G&L Topic: What else do you collect? I've recently gotten back into t-shirts. Just pulling them out again brings back the memories of picking them up the first time... Here's a picture:

Semi-G&L Topic: Pickguards. I've run into some interesting materials. From clear plastic to steel... Here's one in white wrinkle powder-coated 6061/T6 cold-rolled aluminum. It was a game-changer:



I've seen quite a few tortoise shell's too. I guess some are more flammable than others... Show'um!

I collected stamps as a kid, now I have a lot of junk vehicles. That's about it.

Love that guitar, it looks amazing. I am not that into mods so can't contribute much today. But I'll check back later for the photo's. I enjoyed the insect pics yesterday, cool pics.

Is that S-500 a one-piece body?
I have recently seen on eBay an older Legacy and ASAT in natural gloss finish that were both obviously one piece bodies.
Are any of the current production using single slabs? My new ASAT is obviously two pieces and almost all examples I see here are two piece.

Will, that S-500 is really special.I also have some bodies that the seam is hard to find.

I don't even want to comment on what I collect.

It was hot here today. I have not replaced any pickguards on my G&L's. I know that they have to be fit. You can buy any pickguard and it will fit on a Fender. I have several Tortoise but my favorite is aged Pearloid on Red guitars. My next guitar will not be Red and also will not have a pickguard. I am really expanding my horizons. Darwin

Tee shirts seem to me to be a cool thing to collect. Send me a PM if you have any "vintage" (ha!) Tull shirts that you're willing to part with.

I used to collect coins and baseball cards. More recently, I've collected a few G&L guitars and bases that I'm not worthy of and cannot really play (in fact, the basses I cannot play at all).

That's a great picture of a great S-500. Quite a depth of field, no? Might be the most beautiful Lefty on the planet.... - ed

PS: I don't know anything about pickguards, really, but I am interested in how they can be used to as part of systems that can reduce single coil hum. What makes the one you've got there so special to you, and where and how did you get it? All my PGs are original to my guitars.....

No other vices other than music: no hunting, fishing, hot cars, fine art, stamps, etc. Music IS my life.

I did some coin, stamp and baseball card collecting when I was a kid. Still have some of my TOPPS cards from '61-'65, but a former friend of mine stole several thousand dollars of stuff from me, including cherry-picking my card collection and lifting some Morgan silver dollars. I ever see that bastard again, I'm going to introduce him to his new hobby of collecting 135-grain jacketed hollow points.

I suppose you could say I collect watches, but I'm not really a collector. I have a modest assortment of 10 inexpensive Wenger Swiss Army watches. Good thing I'm not rich; I could easily blow a fortune on watches.

I used to collect Corgi diecast scale models of Formula One cars. Sadly, my mother let visiting nieces and nephews play with them and she burned all the original display boxes while I was at college. I've seen individual cars from my collection go for $200+ in mint condition on EBay. We are still talking by the way.

I've got a small collection of Swatch watches that I buy as momentos of different places when I'm overseas. My 3 y.o. daughter found them last month and uses them to play dress ups with. Oh the horror!

Pickguards - Much like string-winders and capos, I seem to be allergic to them.

Collecting - Still have some old concert tees, Rush Farewell to Kings tour, Pink Floyd, Ted Nugent, probably a few more. Now I'm gonna have to dig around....
Probably my favorite bit of kitch is a set of Hanson Bros. action figures from the movie 'Slap Shot' NRFB! Also Bobbleheads, elvis stuff, blatz beer stuff, and historical Milwaukee stuff...
<picks up Magic 8-Ball> "Will I have more G&L's by this time next year?" Huh? Ask Again Later??? Always hated that answer.....

Certain Tomkins guitars have pick guards which are made from kangaroo leather. It looks pretty cool. I kind of wish I had a black one on my Bluesboy, it would match the Spanish Copper better than the tortoise shell one that's on there at the moment. If anyone wants to trade PM me!

Bill: To me, any more than a few is a "collection"...

Philby: I have a few watches. Despite almost everything having a clock built into them, watches still have a place... Die cast stuff are collectible. I have a large collection of D&D lead figurines.

Ledergeist: Concert T's can add up. That Magic 8 Ball...

Blarg: A black textured pickguard would be interesting. G&L offers a black pearloid too, right?

To your standards I collect books, and CDs Will. I may also collect academic papers... boo hiss and all that.

I ofcourse have my infamous custom pickguard, with the cutout of the vine of line in black anodized aluminum. I don't need a pickguard to protect my guards so I figured as I had to have it on a special (or pony up for a special deluxe with an ash top/ash body for the aesthetic I wanted, the upcharge was sizable) I may as well have done something cool with it.
