NGD The ASAT has landed

Post by suave eddie »

After only a 6 week wait my new ASAT classic has arrived.
The fit and finish are flawless. The ebony board looks great with the blueburst and black pickguard. It weighs in at approx 8 lbs on the bathroom scale.
It has the new "light tint" glossy neck. I'm not sure how good the photos capture the color--it is not nearly as yellow as the "vintage" or GOT necks.
I have to agree with Darwin regarding the new serial number plates.

Anyway, here are some pics--hard not to get glare and flash reflections.

Eddie, look at the wood in that one! It is absolutely stunning. Great order and glad it finally came. They should not attach the serial number plate, put doubler back tape on it and let the owner decide. Sweet it is!-- Darwin

The pickups are extremely well balanced, output-wise, AND they are incredibly quiet for single coils.

G&L must have changed brands of output jacks over the years.
I have one cable that I only use at home as it's not the worst quality, but it is not the best either. This particular cable will not fit into the jack on my new ASAT. It goes halfway and stops--I am not going to force it. All my other cables work fine. The cable that doesn't fit has been used for years on my SC-1 with no issues. Actually, even the cables that DO work on the new guitar seem a bit tighter when they snap in than on the SC-1.

I'm not sure if the jack on the SC-1 is original--I don't know if the tech who moved the jack from the front of the guitar to the edge used the same jack or installed a new one.

I'm not usually a fan of the blue burst finish but that is a stunner, especially with that classy black pick guard. Fantastic bursting on it - I love the purple hues towards the edge. Happy NGD!

Nice!! Is it an ash body? And did you re-string it already or is G&L installing D'addarios now?

Yes--Ash body. Original strings.
As far as I know G&L has been shipping with D'Addarios for quite a while now.

Blarg--
The blueburst was not my original choice--I wanted just a clear natural finish as I like to see the wood grain showing--but after looking at many examples I went with the burst--I like how the black edging with the black pickguard, and black ebony fretboard compliment each other.

Has anyone else experienced issues with some cable plugs not fitting into the output jacks?

I was finally able to put the guitar down long enough to take some better photos without the glare.

Very pretty

I too like the shade of purple in that. (G&L doesn't offer purple)
And love the ebony.

Oh my. The wood grain on the back-- just left of the string pass-through is dramatic. It is absolutely exquisite. This is the quintessential blue guitar. Awesome enough to turn me from a lurker into a poster with my first post :)
