Speaking of the Satin finish..

I have 2011 Asat Classic Custom that has the satin finish and I think it is outstanding. Easy to go up and down the neck. Very soft. Very organic but refined. It feels almost like bare wood where the heel sticks out-it feels great. I recently ordered a replacement neck for another guitar and hope it's exactly the same. definitely my favorite finish. my two cents, Paul

The thinness and 'almost bare' feeling of G&L satin is a huge sell for me too, all my other guitar necks are oiled (usually tung, incoming with true) so that it only really fills to pores and is literally 'bare wood',while the G&L is not quite there, it is very very close. Neck finish is a sticky topic for a sweaty guy like me too

Another fan of the satin finish neck! I love the way it glosses up naturally based on use...that's the perfect neck finish in my book!

My only wish is that when you get a maple neck with maple fingerboard, you could get a satin finish neck with a gloss finish fingerboard...that's one thing I'll give Fender props for, along with their compound radius neck. If my new Legacy would have had those two features, it would have been just about perfect!

I had to laugh when I read the other post because the things he was concerned about are the things I like! He basically described the Rampage neck. It's all just a matter of preference, there's no right or wrong opinion here. I personally like the satin finish G&L applies. To me, it doesn't feel like bare wood, but a nice smooth surface. He would be shocked to play an original Rampage, with the Birchwood Casey Tru-oil, and the 25" flat radius! Talk about bare wood and flat!

My S-500 has a bi-cut satin finished neck as you can see above. However, no burred wood sticking out....
