Anyone use flatwound strings on MFD-equiped guitars?

Anyone use flatwound strings on MFD-equiped guitars?

Post by fretbuzzard »

Hey all,

I've had good luck using heavy-ish flatwound strings on both strats and teles- for rock, rockabilly, surf, and twangy styles I really like the sound. I was wondering if anyone out there had tried running flatwounds on guitars with MFD pickups? Does the higher output pickup like flatwound strings?

I can only answer the question from the perspective of a bass, an L2K, and yes, it likes flat wounds.

Not exactly what you were looking for, but I hope helpful.

Never tried it, I typically stray from flatwounds (especially on my basses) as they are too dull for my tastes.

I'm with John on this one. D'Addario XL Chromes .010s on my Special Deluxe. Love the sound and the feel. Highly recommended. Bill

I use Half-Rounds on some of my guitars and like them very much. Some folks think it's too much of a compromise but for me it's often the best of both worlds.

For those of you who have tried flats on your MFD guitars: have you tried both steel flats (like chromes or la bella) and nickel flats (like Thomastik and Pyramid)? Any preference?

See the G&L Knowledgebase, General G&L Questions sub-forum for this post: What gauge & brand of strings does G&L use on their guitars?

Hope this helps.
