Custom Pickguard Porn + a few G&L guitars

Post by Thumbs »

I love looking at all the pics in this forum!!!! G&L sure makes some fine guitars! I'm posting my recent additions; an custom made ASAT (has forearm and belly cuts) - and a custom made S-500 (vintage profile neck, very light bird's eye). I've recently made some custom aluminum guards for both of them.

I think G&L is making some of the best guitars they have ever made.

What finish/color is this? What's it called?

Is the body wood a swamp ash body?

That's beautiful! Love it!

Yes, it's Butterscotch Blonde over swamp ash. I've since modded it. Added an old HG-@ neck pickup and and 2 new aluminum pickguards; one black wrinkle (VHT paint) and black anodized textured aluminum.

Very well done, Thumbs. Great finishes on the metal!
The HG hummer in the neck is a great concept.
Wondering if you tried it in the bridge position as well. Bravo! - ed

Hi Thumbs
I really like the pickguard fits the S500.
Where I can buy those aluminum pickguard like this?
I have a Skyhawk 90, may have for this guitar?
The guitar has no PTB system. I do not need hole.

Thunbs, I really like that textured guard and how it looks under different lighting conditions. Or did you give it a paint job between middle and bottom picture?

The difference in the two ASAT HG-1 pics is as raw aluminum vs. Black anodized. I have a Cav bridge pickup that I will l try at some future point. The angle is somewhat close, but different than a standard ASAT Special MFD. Another mod planned is a 4 way switch and I'd like to try a Seymour Duncan Mini-Humbucker aka Antiquity II - I have a custom would one that was made to go with MFD's. That is way down the road a piece.........

The textured aluminum guard came out better than I expected. I have a raw one for the S-500.

Thumbs, when you have some time, wouldn't you mind posting more precise pictures of the elbow and tummy contours of the ASAT? They seem less pronounced than on the Legacy/S-500 guitars. Am I right or are they the same?

EDIT for precisions (I meant the contours on the butterscotch ASAT).

Hello Will,
I am curious, did you trade this blonde S500 in at Guitar Center? I believe I bought it from them in March. Not many left hand S500 guitars with aluminum pick guards out there. I'm planning a little cosmetic and sonic upgrade this summer.
