Saddle Lock Bridge vs. Dual Fulcrum Vibrato

Post by Parker Hinson »

Is there any difference between the two bridges other than the DF having the option for a tremolo bar? I'm looking to customize my own G&L Legacy very soon and I am curious. I don't typically play with a whammy so does the saddle lock have any advantages? Thanks in advance!!

the question to ask yourself is do you want a guitar with a trem or a hardtail bridge? i have both and they are different in terms of feel, transfer of energy, string tension, etc. both the saddle lock and DF are excellent in their respective ways so it will be more about what you want in a guitar. if you don't use trem very much i'd go with the saddle lock but that's just my 2c's

thanks for your response, the reason i ask is that ive heard/read that a hard-tailed bridge will give more sustain.. have you noticed any difference? If the hard-tail bridge has absolutely no benefit whatsoever than i would obviously get the dual fucrum simply because it allowes the tremolo. (even though i would very rarely use the tremolo)

typically a hard tail bridge will transfer more energy through the body and create more sustain and a beefier sound, but honestly, that's not always the case. if you want the trem then get the DF. it's a great trem and even if you'll only use it rarely, you'll be glad you have it for the times you do. and as you probably know, with G&L's it's hard to have just one so you can always find a hard tail Comanche, S-500, or Legacy next time around.

ok thanks for your input, i think ill go with the df then.

One last question and then ill know for sure, with the DF, how well does it stay in tune? Not having much experience with using the tremolo I am nervous about that. Obviously divebombs are gonna kill you but im talking the normal stuff.

Parker, my advice would be to go with the DF on the Legacy. It would be much easier to sell in the future and If you wish, you could block the trem if that is an issue, and the DF does stay in tune. The bound neck is a personal preference and on a Maple fretboard is not striking as on a Rosewood or Ebony fretboard.-- Darwin

Thank you very much Darwin. The more opinions the better, sounds like the DF has no downsides so thats good enough for me! Thanks a lot.
