G&L ASAT Special..USA/ what cable ?

Post by guitarman_nebr »

I just recieved an ASAT Special. the input jack doesn't work with just any cable. some of my cheaper cables cut out and don't make a good connection. what brand of cable will make the best connection?

I have a Peavey cable that the end seems to be a bit bigger and it works great!! it seems the cheaper cables have a bit smaller end.

suggestions?

Guitarman, I am not sure where you live, but, If you have a metric cable this could be an issue. I have found that quality, American Made cables usually work well. All cables should be the same (1/4 in) but they are not.-- Darwin

Look for cables which have Switchcraft jacks (DiMarzio make some). They fit in there perfectly and last for ever.

They have metric cables? For the record mine is fine, I have all neutrik ended cables I made. Maybe you could score yourself some neutrik ends?

i took a caliper and measured my "problem" cords. they measure around 6mm. a bit smaller than the USA made 1/4" cable end that works perfectly. my other guitars don't seem to mind, but the ASAT cuts out and makes a noise like the ground is bad.

no big deal, i shouldn't be using that cheap stuff anyway.

6mm = .24 inch 1/4" = .25 inch

enough to make a sonic mess

That was my point. When we get into the smaller sizes it doesn't take much. I have been building cables and switchcraft is a safe bet.-- Darwin

Might be as the G&L has a barrel jack, your others may have an open prong style?

yea, all of my guitars have the open prong style. they can be bent to accept anything.

i am not complaining, i like the idea that the ASAT takes a little better cable.
