G&L Double Barrel Demo

The Double Barrel is a clean boost pedal which shows up to the fight packing 30dB of gain, but it's not just firepower that makes this a kick-ass boost pedal. Adding big gain is one thing, making it work with the many types of tube amps on the market is another. Fact is, different amps react, well, differently to boost. Let's say you shove a lot of gain into a Vox AC-30, a bright amp to start with. What you'll find is the top end gets harsh as the harmonics pile up. Or, take a Fender Deluxe. Shove a lot of boost into the front end and you'll find it "farts out."

With as much boost as the Double Barrel can supply, flexibility is critical to versatility. The Double Barrel's Vari-Hi and Vari-Lo controls are the solution, allowing you to tailor the high- and low-end response from a variety of different tube amps. The Var-Hi control lets you tame the high frequency response, allowing you to smooth out the upper harmonics of your overdriven tone. The Vari-Lo control allows you to shape and tighten up the low frequency response. Finally, here is a big, hairy boost pedal that plays well with all your tube amps, whether they're from Fender, Marshall, Vox, Hiwatt, Matchless, Mesa or any other quality brand.

In this demo we're doing one lick repeatedly, each time dialing up a different settings with the same rig to show you how you can use the Double Barrel's controls to dial up different shades of the amp's overdriven tones. Since we had a G&L Jerry Cantrell Rampage in our hands (love that Duncan JB pickup) and the Marshall JMP's tubes grinding, we figured we'd close out the demo with a bangin' Alice in Chains riff.
