My new (old) one!

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

My new (old) one!

Post by AsatZfan »

Hello everyone. I'm a long time G&L guy, since I bought my first Sig series Asat in 1990. Love them. Have four G&Ls, all in the registry.

Anyway, I just purchased an Asat Classic (030540) that seems to have a couple interesting features. Don't know if they're mods or if the guitar was built this way. The guy I purchased from (ebay), indicated that the original owner had said it was some sort of endorsement deal.... Anyway, I thought the guitar was black. The second day, I was playing it and the sun hit it through the window and darn if it isn't deep, dark, green, and, it has the Leo sig that appears to be gold (you can "feel" the sig under the finish, unlike the sig on my Asat). The pickguard is the white aluminum. The bridge was painted black (paint is coming off), and is a notched type bridge that says Asat Classic by Leo Fender....I've not seen another notched G&L bridge. Bridge pickup looks like a Barden, but after further investigation, most likely is the Gotoh blade pickup that is in the Legacy. Neck pickup looks like standard Asat Classic. Control plate is black krinkle with black knobs. Maple fretboard, black G&L tuners. I removed the neck before putting on new strings....no date in neck pocket or on neck. G&L Case is like new. There is no doubt in my mind that it's the real deal...I'm just curious about it. I got a good deal. By the way, I absolutely love it, love the sound of the blade pickup in the bridge through my Z ghia. This is another keeper and I'm glad I found it! Thanks for any info or thoughts. I think this is my first post, although I've been around for a while!

I'm getting really detailed now! Actually, I'm getting the body ready to send to Dave Evans for a Pull String install (my second!). Had to take it apart anyway, thought I'd take some more pics:

Sticker that came off of the bottom of the pickup:

If any of you happen to have any info about the color, pickup, etc., I would appreciate your thoughts! Thanks!
