NGD Legacy Vintage White
This was a really weird purchase. I bought this guitar new on Amazon from Amazon, not a reseller. The description on the page was vague. No color was listed and it basically looked to me like it would be a STD Legacy with a color matched headstock. Which it is. The only problem was, I had no idea what color the guitar was I was flipping back and forth between wanting to take a chance and thinking it's smarter to buy something used that I know the color of. I called Amazon and they agreed to let me return it without paying shipping if I didn't like it since the description was bad. I thought about it for another day or so and they dropped the price even further while it was in my cart.
In the end I got it for a much better price than the 1100-1200 I see a lot of Dealers selling them for. I'm really glad it wasn't the Fullerton Red (orangeyish) color. It plays really nice out of the box. I lowered the action a bit further and I have no buzzing. Sounds great unplugged. I haven't plugged it in yet though. It weird that the color has such a yellow tint to it. But, I think they are going for the aged Olympic White strat look. I think they got it pretty close. I was hoping it might me candy apple red, but after all is said and done I think I lucked out and got a great color.
What do you guys think?
I plugged it in and it really sounds incredible on the clean channel of my Orange Rocker 30. I really like all of the positions a lot. I'm not totally in love with the Bridge position but it's good. The middle position is the loudest, and probably my favorite too. I didn't think I'd like it and I love it. Go figure.
I always prefer my bridge to be a little louder than the neck on my 2 HB guitars. I may play around with pickup height a little. Maybe, I can get a more comfortable setup level-wise. I think it's just hard for me to not hear a HB in the bridge pos.
The PTB system is pretty cool. It sort of has individual pots for treble and bass. I can explain it better this way. The bottom knob is for bass cut I believe. These guitars seem a little warmer sounding than regular strats to begin with. Rolling this off just a tad makes the other knob (Treble) act almost like a regular tone knob on an electric guitar. I'm sure it's more complicated than that but that sort of sums up my brief experience with it. I also turned the "bass" knob up all the way and fattened up the Bridge pup. This was very useful.
As for the Dirty channel...it's good but not quite there yet. I have to play with the gain and EQ a little to find the sweetspot. This guitar is definitely way different that all of my others as far as the way it handles dirt. Not in a bad way though, thankfully.

As your subject line says, it's Vintage White. Here's a link to G&L's webpage for Vintage White.brianr0131 wrote:It weird that the color has such a yellow tint to it. The top guitar kinda look's like yours, don't you think.
It looks great with the creme pickguard, pickup covers, and knobs, too.
When you get a chance, please do add it to our G&L Registry.
Welcome to the world of G&L!

NIce guitar! What's your fretboard wood. It may look like ebony. That would be like the proverbial cherry on the sundae!

That's the contrast playing tricks on you. It's rosewood. Nice and dark though. This guitar was shipped out of Fullerton in April 2009 and the rosewood isn't dry looking or anything. It's rather dark. I like it.Xochitl wrote:NIce guitar! What's your fretboard wood. It may look like ebony. That would be like the proverbial cherry on the sundae!

Re: NGD Legacy Vintage White
Craig, I could use your help please. This guitar was shipped in April of 2009 from G&L. The Serial # is CLF54004
I am finding some info about a model referred to as a Legacy Standard that came in 4 colors and all "Standards" came with paint matched headstocks and 3 piece bodies as opposed to the normal 2 piece USA legacy. As far as my research has brought me, those 2 things are the only differences between the Legacy and Legacy Standard.
It seems the Standard was put out to be a more economically priced Legacy for the "masses" so to speak.
The box from mine does not say Standard anywhere in the model number and also, on this link http://guitarsbyleo.com/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=42 it says that the Standard was only made from 2006-2008. So, is my guitar a Legacy or a Legacy Standard? Does it have a 2 piece or a 3 piece body? If it is a standard, are there any other differences?

Re: NGD Legacy Vintage White
Thanks Craig. I appreciate the info. I don't think it answers my questions though. My guitar came in a Black G&L HSC sealed in a cardboard G&L box that clearly has a shipping label going from G&L to Amazon (A whse in PA) in 4/2009. So, I am just wondering if I have a Legacy, Legacy STD, or possibly an Amazon special run? I was hoping to find out the particulars as far as how many pieces the body is etc.
I also checked the registry for Legacy Standard listings and my Serial number is much higher than those are.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

The Fullerton Standard Series Legacy had a short production run (2006 - 2008), sobrianr0131 wrote:Thanks Craig. I appreciate the info. I don't think it answers my questions though. it sounds like it is a normal production Legacy with the optional matching headstock.
I can't help regarding the number of pieces the body has.

WOW BRIAN,
THAT IS SWEET!! I LOVE VINTAGE WHITE!! In case you haven't noticed?
I especially like the matching headstock!! And, I'm pretty sure you have a USA factory production run Legacy with matching headstock option!

My vintage white Legacy has cream knobs and pickups, a RW board, but a tortoise guard--a totally different look.
Pretty guitar you have there!

Re: NGD Legacy Vintage White
I just realized I don't have one of that guitar! I gotta get busy!
Here's something to tide you over:
A rare ASAT Deluxe in three Color SunBurst, RW board, satin Birdseye neck and a DF Vibrato.
And here are a pair of blondes and a redhead--and none of them have any clothes on!!!
"Mary Kaye" Legacy, Transparent Blonde, Duncan Antiquity Texas Hot pickups;
"Marilyn Monroe" Legacy Special, Butterscotch Blonde, Ebony FB, Birdseye GOT neck;
"Jo-Jo" Legacy Fullerton Red, GOT neck, cream plastic.
Mary Kaye has all gold hardware, save for the DF Vibrato; and she is a three-bolt; the others are four.
Enjoy!

Re: NGD Legacy Vintage White
That vintage white Legacy is the bomb. Is that an ebony board? I love ebony boards! I had a (rare) Heritage H-160V that looked similar, sold it to a guy from the HOC, though. It was more super-strat than vintage, though. Love the looks of this one!

Thanks Dick. It's a Rosewood board. But, a very dark one at that. I think the color of the headstock makes the board look like ebony.
