hey all, just got my new Legacy from a dealer off ebay. I love everything about it, nice light weight, low action, great tone. I must preface by saying I got an incredible deal on it. Its brand new, with the G&G tolex deluxe case, papers, etc.
What do you think of that mineral streak on the back of the neck? Am I being too picky here? I was surprised to see it, as the photo the seller had on the listing must have had enough glare going on to obscure it. The seller says I have 3 days to return it if not happy. Think it would affect resale down the road? Even when holding & playing it, you can't see that 3" line in the photo. I'm surprised G&L even let it go out that way. I would consider this flaw to be a "blem" but I understand G&L doesn't sell 2nds...
thoughts?
Keep? Return? (I'll never get another new one for what I paid though!)

It is not a blemish.
See this post: Need expert views: is this a crack in S-500 neck?.
Hope this helps.

If it were me, I wouldnt sweat it. If you got a great price, resale issues shouldnt be an issue. As long as you like how it plays and how it sounds, play it.
If it really bothers you, send it back but I wouldnt worry about the resale.

i agree...often a great deal on a new guitar is due to something making that guitar not sell quickly whether it's a plain color or something like you have....i've never seen that before...but it affects nothing and since you got an "incredible deal" on it and love the way it plays and sounds, i'd call it a 'one-of-a-kind' and be happy with it...

I like the subtle "S" shape of it, almost like an f-hole....and it doesn't seem out of place with the other light mineral streaks.
I see it as a little hidden Mojo.
The seller should have made an effort to show all the details.
Love that Black and blonde look on a G&L,
cheers

Definitely not a blem, just a mineral streak. Makes your guitar unique and identifiable. I understand being surprised by it, but it will do nothing to affect value or playability long term.

+1 You can pick out yours among a million otherwise identical ones. Beyond that, it is on the back of the neck so it is not esthetically distracting when playing in public. Better than 'road worn/'rustic' 'imperfections' IMO. And you will be to busy wailing to pay too much attention to it anyway ...sirmyghin wrote:Definitely not a blem, just a mineral streak. it's merely a skunk stripe that decided against being a full-on skunk stripe and stopped after three skinny inches. it's pretty clear to me that it's a bit of Leo's DNA that expressed itself in your guitar. i'd consider myself lucky.
p.s.: the southern quilters used to accept and embrace a tiny "flaw" in their quilts. "it's where the evil spirits can escape." i love that. but as i said, your stripe's not a flaw. it's part of Leo come back to bestow mojo.

If you got a great deal because of that mark, I'd say it's worth it! It's not a problem as far as the functionality of the guitar, and very few people will ever see it, much less notice it. Sounds like a win-win to me!

yes its staying, just got it off the bench where I removed the plastic from the pickguard. I did some minor nut work to it, as some strings were a bit high. Also the string tree had to be made lower (I've seen one other new Legacy that needed to be lower also, it barely brought the pitch down 1/4 step). Other than that, its great right from the case. Gonna use it tonight at rehearsal, I just got in a Police tribute band. I know, now I'll need a sunburst Asat Bluesboy!
