I snapped up a mint S-500 on TGP for like $750, which is a ridiculous steal. It's white pearl with tort. #1 neck shape, G&G case and certificate of authenticity. Anyway, I split my time between NY and London so I've had it shipped to my gf's place in Harlem...it arrived last night. These guitars are like £1400 in the UK (if you can even find one)! One thing that is weird is that it has regular Strat knobs on it - instead of the Tele style knobs you see on the majority of S-500s. I assume it also has split shaft pots on it - I would like to switch them to the chrome knobs like on regular S-500s but I guess that'll involve wiring in solid shaft pots. The seller assured me that these are stock and that he didn't replace them, and indeed I've seen pictures of a couple of new S-500s with regular Strat knobs on them. I was under the impression that they all shipped with flat top Tele style knobs, can somebody elaborate on this?
Either way, I'm stoked, it's such a good deal and I'm going to NY on Wednesday. Can't wait to play it! Should complement my trusty ASAT Special nicely.
Here's some porn (seller's pics, I will take better ones soon).
Yay, new S-500 on the way to me.

Beautiful guitar. Must admit I do like these 'traditional' knobs better on S-style guitars anyway. And with the pickguard, it provides a nice contrast. Congrats!

Thanks fellas. I'll rock the normal knobs for a while and see how I feel. It's not a big deal.

So I take it G&L must ship S-500s out with both kinds of knobs?

Hey Loobster,
That's a SWEET GEETAR you got there!!
By the way, you can put those tele knobs on a split shaft pot! If you look at my Legacy in the avatar, you'll see it has the metal knobs and those are split shaft pots!! There's a little trick you can use to fit them!

Go for it. Your videos had a lot to do with me going out to try an asat special. I ended up with a Tribute model due to budget limitations but I love it. To me, the best pickups made. And the neck pickup especially surprises me consistently.

Thanks man, that's really kind of you.
The MFDs really are awesome. 3 years later and they still blow me away every time I plug in.
