The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.
The more I come to this forum the closer I am to getting in serious trouble. I love and am perfectly happy with my Tribute asat special but you guys keep posting these beauties and it makes me think about what I have I can sell.
Tom, I generally practice unplugged and I love these chambered Asats and Teles. They just sing with tone and sustain when unplugged because you can hear them so well. I honestly cannot tell you if there is a difference plugged in. For a guy my age, the weight is a factor and I traded an extremely heavy alder for this chambered. I have 3 chambered ASATS, 2 chambered Teles and a Hamer and you will not see any of the chambered leaving.
Jos, Confession here. I thought that you were a kid around 25 but in a post yesterday you mention that you had been playing 30 years. Now, that makes you at least 32. There is no doubt in my mind that you guitar procurement is very deliberate and you have some dandies. I have not been as deliberate as you have and just kind of bumble along. It appears that we have both been on birthday binges and mine is still a couple of weeks out. Any reasonable person would have figured out by now that I have pushed my luck to beyond what a reasonable guy would have. Yesterdays procurement was a surprise to Ginny but I have practiced being smooth and am approaching being borderline smooth. Ginny, the CFO has been wonderful about all this and I am not going for a triple before my birthday. Can you imagine what kind of trouble I would be in if I had GAS. Thanks folks for your comments on the ASAT.-- Darwin

Ditto! I practice plugged in when convenient, but I do also like to practice unplugged.
Probably a dumb question, but do you notice much difference between your chambered/semi-hollow and solid bodied ASATs plugged in? My semi-hollow experience is mainly limited to an H-535 (full-sized semi-hollow) and my Prospect, and while there's the risk of easier feedback, they seemed airy compared to the H-150 but in a way that the larger body size would seem to account for. I DO like to just pick a guitar up and practice without worrying about warming up the amp tubes or annoying my wife & daughter with me plucking away for a bit.

LOL. You don't have GAS Darwin. You just booked yourself a trip to Egypt to find a particular river This is why Jay's book is such a hoot. We both fit right in.
As far as my age goes, somewhere between 25 and retirement. Now I can afford collecting guitars. At 25 I was only dreaming. But you know what, sometimes dreams do come true! And like you have argued before, it is a good for diversifying your portfolio. And Jommie, my wife, likes it too as long as the finances stay sound and I stay within the project, i.e. collecting all rare/limited/special built/signature ASAT's released since '85. Still have a couple to go but I've got time.
Southpaw, If you had gas you would be in trouble as you couldn't come up with any better guitars than you already have. They are the top of the breed. I may be approaching borderline GAS but I might be missing a couple of symptoms. Give Molly an extra hug!-- Darwin
Thanks Legacyman, it is a few days off but I was shopping early.
Being the curious guy that I am, I removed the neck and recorded the dates in the registry. The neck is 1-27-10 and the body is MAR 02 2010. While I had the neck off I put a .015 shim in the neck and lowered the action. The shim allows the saddles to be up from the bridegplate a bit. I have the high E at .045 to less than .050 and the low E at .055 to less than .060. Does this baby play with no buzz. I am very happy and the Plek seems to pay off. The neck pocket was tight and the neck had to be carefully removed. My new ones have bigger side markers that the 2008 and they are easier to see. As others have mentioned, the fit of the Tolex case is superb and the guitar will not move.
If I were to improve anything on this guitar it would be a pearloid pickguard intead of 3 ply white. The improved quality control is apparent on these two new ones that I have brought home this last week. Fit and finish are flawless. Truth be known, I had been looking for a Fender Custom Shop Tele, but these are what I came home with and for good reasons. I basically got two for the price of one and they probably sound better and are far superior in the looks department. --Darwin
