I had such GAS for one as well. So, I have one on order, should be here in May??????

Mine will look the same as SouthpawGUY's but with ebony board.

Can't wait to hear those pickups.

The current specs show the body as being Mahogany. Prior to that change in 2007, it was Tilia (Basswood). As with many models, you can special order the body wood and in this case of SouthpawGuy's it was a Swamp Ash body.

Hope this helps.

Yes, thanks for the clarification. I ordered mine with the mahogany and Deluxe Maple top. Can't wait.

I bought mine used, it's a 2009 model, so it was most likely a special order.

I use my ASAT special for everything country/jazz to Dream theatre and Iron Maiden. It delivers in spades.

The deluxe just has a flame top effectively, and you can get mahogany (which I bet you could get without the deluxe anyway if you ask). No pickguard on it and rear routed cotrols. I would say they will sound pretty dang the same, minus system overall capacitance making slight differences due to tolerances in electrical parts.
