The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.
Hi!
This ASAT has shown up on Ebay Europe, but there is one thing that makes me confused.
There's no serial number on the back of the headstock; have a look. In fact there's no serial number to be found at all.
Is the ASAT legit? Auction says it's a ASAT "Made in USA".
Regards
From the one pic available, I can't say yes, no, or maybe.
It is a T style guitar, made by Fender, G&L, and a thousand others. It has a G&L neck plate. And the headstock has the G&L "birthmark" on it. But, who knows.
I'm leaning towards yes, it's legit. Like Ed said, it has the G&L birthmark. It could be that the neck has been refinished. We need to see more pictures to be sure though. That's also the same brand of silica/moisture absorbing stuff as what's in my USA models.
Very nice straight grain on that body, it'd sound great!
It is hard to tell from the photos but I think that the neck is darker on the back than the front. It is not a GOT and it is too dark for an original finish. Only a guess, but I would say it is legit and has had the back of the neck refinished. I would like to see the contrast between the side of the head stock and the back. The waterslide decal would have had to have been removed and Ii believe that it is covered with a clearcoat. Ask the seller if he bought it new.-- Darwin

I agree with this assessment.
I will add, that the neck would appear to have been originally a satin finish (looking at the front of the headstock).
So, I'm thinking why would someone want to remove the S/N and refinish only the back of the headstock? ...
..... This not a fake G&L ASAT but perhaps a stolen ASAT.
