Are these the same as Leo Era Asat knobs?

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

Are these the same as Leo Era Asat knobs?

Post by efudd »

These are from Stew-Mac - the black ones of course:

http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Knobs/Dome_ ... es#details

Can anyone tell if they are exactly the same, or just close? If not, anyone know a source for original knobs? I'd guess G&L didn't have them made custom and just sourced them somewhere, e.g. Mouser, Allied, Newark All-Parts etc. If anyone knows post or PM me. Thanks.

I can't for the life of me figure out how to post pictures on this forum. I spent an hour reading thru and testing - odd in 2011, feels like 1995 again. If anyone wants to leave instructions I'd much appreciate it. Does it only work with Photobucket?

I'd have to pull out my ASAT to be sure...they look close.

If you have copied the direct url from a picture on the web ( in this case right click and choose 'copy image location' ).
Then paste it between the 'Img' tags that appear when you click on the 'Img' button just above the text box.

Does that make sense? ...hope it helps,
Elwood

Direct from the READ ME FIRST: guitarsbyleo.com History and G&LDP Guidelines:
Posting Photos: In order to share a GIF or JPEG image in a post on the G&LDP, the tricky part is that you have to actually have that photo located on a web server somewhere. That's actually not as complicated as it sounds, though - there are numerous services out there that will do this very thing for you and closely guide you through the process... take a look at Photobucket.com, Yahoo! Briefcase, Flickr, and PhotoPoint, for example (note: if you have other suggestions for free photo hosting services, please let me know so I can list them here). With the update to the new Gallery on guitarsbyleo.com, you can now upload G&L images to your own photo album and then post them here on the G&LDP. We do ask that you limit the photos you upload to G&L instrument images, as we do have a limited amount of disk space. For details on the Registered Users Gallery, take a look at the Registered Users Gallery.

(Important Note: some services like PhotoPoint let you create "photo albums"; in this case, when submitting a post, you'll want to use the URL tags so that you can include a link to your photo album. The instructions below only apply when you have the URL to a single GIF or JPEG image and would actually like to embed that image within your post.)

Anyway, once you've submitted the photo to one of these hosting services you'll be able to access it with your web browser by means of its URL (for example, http://www.myhostingservice.com/myusername/myphoto.jpg); the hosting service will provide this URL to you. Using the Img tags, include the URL path provided between the Img tags. If your image does not display fully during Preview, you should use the timage= tags which will place a thumbnail image of your photo as a link to the full size image.
Hope this helps.

hmmm, regarding images, I tried all that, maybe it's Picasa that doesn't work here? When I get a chance I'll play around in the test area.

Elwood, if you get a chance to pull out you Asat please post what you see - even if down the road. Thanks.

Sure no prob, probably this week.
The pictures I have don't show the knobs well enough:

as far as pictures go, you just need to make sure you have a direct link url to the photo.

When I 'borrowed' the image from stewmac , I just right-clicked over the picture,
chose 'copy image location', then pasted it in between the Img tags.

I haven't used Picasa, is that just editing software? If so then you will need to upload them to the web somewhere like photobucket etc. , then copy the direct photo url from there.

I'm looking forward to freeing the ASAT from the guitar closet,
Elwood

Clever, I didn't think of that!

It's both. If you have gmail you pretty much have a picasa account. I like the gui best of the image hosters.

Hard to say, they are definitely close. I have never seen the Stew-Mac ones in person, but the knurl feels more coarse than it looks on those knobs if that makes any sense. I'll try to get a pick up soon too.

I downloaded Picasa and uploaded a pic...I couldn't find a place to copy the direct url,
so I hovered over the pic...right-clicked , 'copy image location' , etc.

...so that's a work around .

Here's proof : )

I got it. I was copying the 'link to album' I just did what you did in the test area and it worked. Thanks.

Back to the knobs how does the dome and the textured pattern compare on the originals to the ones from stew-mac?

These are Gotohs from Mojo I think they are the same as the Stew Macs. However, here's a bit more detail:
