hi all,

question? why do most blues boy guitars have f hole? is it because of the '72 thinline?

A semi-hollow body is a very popular option on the Bluesboy. F-holes are quite pretty things to look at, so they made their way on to the guitar. I don't think it has anything to do with a '72 thinline tele. They are available with a solid body so no f-hole there, and you can even get a semi-hollow one without an f-hole. I think it has more to do with the way the guitar looks than any sonic reasons.

All Tribute ASAT Classic BlueBoys are semi-hollow with the f-hole. As mentioned, the USA version

Here's a USA semi-hollow with no f-hole. I haven't been playing it much lately, though, so I'm considering the notion of finding a new home for it:

Jim!!!! firstly, nice to see you again, and second WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! That is the nicest sunburst I've seen, EVER!!!!!!! That finish looks a hundred miles deep!

Nice to see you, too, Jamie! It's been a while. I've been quite busy lately, so I haven't had much time to hang around the forum much. Unfortunately for Bill, I sold the guitar to another guy who had been looking at it for a while now. I was very reluctant to sell it, but I got in a little deep with a couple of boutique amps and yet another G&L ASAT Deluxe (wanted the HBs & solid body & 12" radius). So, I guess not all is lost, but I'll miss the Bluesboy.

Doesn't the semi-hollow have a bit less bite, more sustain than the solid body Bluesboy?

Yeap! G&L makes a solid-body Bluesboy, too! And thanks, but the guitar is no longer mine. Funny thing is, I don't even own a Bluesboy any longer. For the longest time I wouldn't be caught dead without one. Perhaps some day I'll have another.

I tend to think that the solid-body has more sustain and a little more bite. The semi-hollow tends to sound, well, like a semi-hollow. It's a little mellower sounding and perhaps a little rounder all around, especially on the low end.

I had a tough time deciding between my ASAT Classic (shown on my avatar) and this Bluesboy, last year:

I chose the Classic for the bite and I'm so into it.

My next guitar will probably be that orange beauty. I love the sound.

i think i'd like a BluesBoy like the one Jim had...Semi with no F hole...#3 neck with ebony FB....gettin woody just thinking about it...
it'd be a nice match with the S-500 SH without F hole #3 neck i also want...
i guess i need to start casing a few banks around here...

Shows my ignorance, but I didn't know there was a semi hollow with no f-hole option. Does it make for a tighter sound?

i think that an F hole would add some to the bass, not necessily reduce top end, as opposed to a semi without F hole...i've read that somewhere...
of course, it may be tough to discern the difference...
