Pickguard change

Introduced myself a few weeks back. Thanks again for the warm welcome. Mentioned there that I was thinking about changing the pickguard, and so I ordered a "parchment" version from Chandler. Here's a pic of the before and after...


Following up on Blarg's suggestion, I'm planning on mounting a mini humbucker in one so I have a setup similar to a BluesBoy and can swap back and forth as the mood strikes me...

Nice guitar, I am partial to the tort however. I like those knobs, they look to have a bit less profile than the barrel knobs on my special.

Question: G&L don't do a transparent pickguard option right? Well, I'm thinking about a custom Bluesboy order. Maybe Blackburst over a Quilted Maple Top. And, I'm thinking wouldn't a pickguard obscure that lovely patterned finish of the top? So, a solution might be a transparent pickguard option?

Any views?

This is a Korean made model from 2006, and has standard size "tele" style routs. I'll have to "carve" a bit to put a mini humbucker in the neck position. Still studying on the right method, but probably be using a router bit on a dremel style tool unless I find a better alternative before then.

So sorry to drag this up from yesteryear but I have a question along the lines of this post.
I want to adjust the neck MFD on my ASAT classic, does the pickguard come off easily ( or at all) with strings still on the guitar?
If I need to remove the strings I'll wait until I get a bridge MFD for it, mine came to me used with ( as told by the shop) a Twang King.
And while I am at it, I might want to replace my pickguard too. I have a mid '80's ASAT classic in white with a tortoiseshell guard. I like but might like something else better!

You can remove the pickguard without removing the strings on the 1 or 2 pickup ASAT Classic models.

For example, here's my ASAT Classic Bluesboy 90 Semi-Hollow (with and without pickguard):

Back to the OP.

I like the white much better. It really puts the focus on that amazing grain on that guitar. I also have never been to keen on tortoise on any guitar. It's not really even tortoise any more, it's just what they call it. Save the tortoise for combs and such. Just Sayin.

I did the same thing with my ASAT, but I changed the pickguard from tort to black. Tons better IMO:

I really like the parchment. You have helped me decide on it for the new guard on my Classic, which has had a pupectomy and is now a Solamente, albeit with some Bill Lawrence inductor bits in for extra, nice tones.
The Classic is orange, and the parchment looks just the right kind of slightly-not-white for the sort of Palomino result I'm hoping for.

Thanks for the info. This thread has me Gassing for a new pick guard ! Picks will be posted. Looking at my axe in my profile pick, any suggestions? Black is always a safe bet, I am not sure I want parchment. I like the reddish brown of tortoise shell but not crazy about the design.

I have a white asat and I'm gonna make a 3 ply vintage white for it... i think it will look pretty even if i have a doubt if it will match the black powder bridge and plate...

That new pickguard makes it look like the real deal. Enjoy that guitar and turn up the amp so I can hear you up here in the big city.
