New Member from Oz!

Post by thinline »

Hey there, I'm a G&L fan from Sydney, Australia. Great looking forum you have here! I have three G&Ls, a 2008? USA Legacy in sunburst, a 2007 USA ASAT Bluesboy, also in sunburst and a 2010 USA ASAT Special in blonde over swamp ash. My wife suprised me with both of the ASATs (not at the same time)! I've only had the Special for a couple of days, but I'm already in love. The Legacy gets the most playtime, just because it's so versatile. The neck is perfect for me and I love the large radius fretboard on it as well.

I build the odd amp or two, as well as a few pedals when I have the time. At the moment I'm playing through a Trainwreck Liverpool clone that I built a couple of years ago, as well as an AX84 October. You can see me playing my Bluesboy through the October, here on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AQ0T3yyjqc

Seeya 'round guys!

Welcome aboard mate! There are a few other Aussies lurking around here, mainly from Vic, WA, and Tas, so glad to see someone from NSW around.

The other board members would probably say this, so I'll get in first. If you don't post photos your G&L's don't officially exist! :D

Would love to see a pic of your Special.

I'd like to build a point to point vintage amp clone one day. I'll have to brush up on my soldering skills first though. And improve my circuit diagram reading skills........ Could be sometime around 2020 before I'm up for it.

Welcome, Thinline. The Bluesboy is one of the most versatile guitars around, I'll never part with mine!

Love that amp in the clip too, you've done a great job on it.

The more Aussies the better as far as I am concerned. Welcome!

Glad you found this place. Enjoyed your playing. Love my Bluesboy as well.

Sounds like you found a very special lady to gift you the way she has. Let me know if you ever break up ;+) - ed

Hey Thinline, welcome aboard. As Philby mentioned, all the current Aussie mob are from the AFL States, so i'll be good to have an NRL rep here :-)

... Ronnie Earl fan - that would get you some extra credits :-)

... oh and if your alias is anything to go by then you earn bonus points 'cause as well as appreciating the G&L's both me and Zapco are fans of the FWR pick ups.

Cheers, Robbie

Hey guys, sorry for the delay, been too busy playing the Special to take pics :)

AFL?? They still play that? Go the EELS!

Here are a couple of shots of the Special. I'm loving the pickups on this thing! Since I got it, I've restrung it with 10-52's and set it up the way I like. Took it to a jam last week and was really, really happy with the way it sounded and played.

Where's the Thinline, and what can you tell us about that amp?
Thanks for posting. Worth the wait. - ed

Thanks for all the comments. Back when I started frequenting discussion forums on the internet, I had a Squire "Pro Tone" series Thinline style tele, so I picked that as my tag and I use it whenever joining a new forum (unless it's already been taken). I sold that guitar when I got the Bluesboy.

The amp in the pictures is my AX84 October. It's a 6V6 powered, JTM45/Plexi type amp, with adjustable negative feedback and a master volume. The normal and bright channels are permanentley in parallel (like having a patch lead across the inputs on a JTM45) and you can mix in any amount of either channel via the Bright and Dark volume controls. I built it from scratch a few years ago. I'll dig up some gut shots and post them up here later in the week. It's the amp I playing in the Bluesboy YouTube clip. Here's another clip with a Les Paul.

Hope you enjoy it! I'm going to do some clips with the Special when I get some time.
