pawn shop comanche need a little set up advice

Post by diverse379 »

I just bought this Comanche from a pawn shop

why are there only two springs in the back holding the trem block.?
is this normal.

also how deep should my bridge be set into the guitar i know with fenders they are supposed to lay right in there this one was floating rather high so I screwed in the claw just a bit it is still is higher than my strat but I dont want to mess with it anymore.

The spring claw does support three springs. Perhaps the previous owner removed one of them.
When G&L was installing 9's on their Comanche, S-500, and Legacy models, they would only install 2 springs
and include the 3rd spring in the case.

As Craig said 3 springs is normal.
Here's a good pic of my Legacy bridge at where like it set.
I like it lower than the suggested 3/16" and level.
BTW...the saddles are not normal. Just an experiment with vintage style stamped ones.

thanks craig for the links
who would have thought about intonating from the 19th fret

and thanks jazz rat for the picture very helpful.

my problem is that the G&L springs are bigger and resonate deeper I believe this contributes to the tone of the guitar

i only have two springs if I use a third lighter spring which resonates higher I am altering my original tone of the guitar.

since putting raw vintage springs on my strat I will no longer think springs are just abut holding a bridge down

i went on G&L website and I couldnt find those springs anywhere

any body have any suggestions?

You might check your local G&L dealer.
You could also post a Want Ad in our Marketplace.
And don't forget to register your Comanche in our G&L Registry.

Hope this helps.
