2005-2006 G&L ASAT Special Semi-hollow

Post by NMyTree »

Hello everyone. New to G&L Guitars and new to the forum.

I just came back from a local music store where I spotted a G&L ASAT Special Semi-hollow (with F-hole), in a beautiful natural honey finish. The aesthietics of this guitar really caught my eye.

So naturally I had to play it. This was the fiirst G&L guitar I ahve ever played. Well, I'm in love :D What gorgeous feel and playability. The neck melted in my hand. My fretting fingers simply floated across the strings. I am in love.

So I come here to ask if anyone could help in providing me some information on this guitar.

This is a 2005 -2006 G&L ASAT Special Semi-hollow. This guitar is not a Tributes Series guitar.

I'm guessing that this a Swamp Ash wood body. Does anyone know with any certainty if it is Swamp Ash?

The neck is Maple, as is the fretboard.

Does anyone know anything about what the fretboard radius is on this guitar? And what kind of neck is used?

How about these soapbar-styled pickups? Are the Ceramic or Alinico?

I already made my mind up soley based on the feel/playability and sound, I plunked down some money on it and I'm paying it off over the next few weeks.

But I'm just wondering.

Thank you.

The only thing I would add is that most G&L guitars can be ordered with a variety of neck options so don't just assume the neck on the ASAT is 7.5" radius.

See here for all the neck options:

Thanks, guys.

I love this guitar so much, that, I eventually want to get another ASAT but with some humbuckers; to round out the different tones and types of music I can play with these guitars. So I want to make sure I get the very same type of neck and fingerboard radius; because this neck and radius is so perfect for my hands. With all the different neck shapes and sizes (C, U, V and variations of these), I have yet to wrap my head around on how to determine what this guitar has.

You'll probably have to take the neck off to find out what number neck it is. Determining the radius should be easy - you can either get hold of a radius gauge or use a compass set to 7.5" and then 12" to make one yourself.

Be sure to post pics when you get it!

Here's a link to a free radius gauge template. I printed it out onto thick card and laminated it as suggested in the user instructions. It works great for confirming fretboard radius, and also making sure the nut and bridge saddles follow the correct radius.

Thank you for all your help, guys!

I certainly will post several pics of her, when I bring her home. Hoping to have her home by mid March, the latest.
