NGD - Special Order Legacy has landed!!

Post by Muleya »

The Legacy HB I ordered just prior to Thanksgiving was delivered today!! I was stoked that it came in the nice tolex case...wasn't sure if it would or not...it's a beautiful case. And the guitar doesn't look bad, either!! And it plays so nicely!! Here it is:

Also found it interesting the serial number is now on a plate screwed onto the back of the headstock!

Nice tight neck pocket.

The frets are beautifully done. It plays really nicely and sounds sweet!! It's a bit on the heavy side, though...even though I requested a lighter body...8.6 lbs., a full pound heavier than my other Legacy. But it's still a bit lighter than my LP!

The JB in the bridge is definitely hotter than anything I've got in any other guitar, but I'm okay with that! The coil split works really nicely, and still retains a surprisingly stratty tone in position 2 when split...not quite like an SSS configuration, but better than I thought it might. The neck and middle complement the JB nicely.

The graph-tech nut definitely helps keep the guitar in tune when using the tremolo bar...though obviously not quite as well as a double locking system. But for how I use the tremolo, it should do just fine. I went pretty crazy with it today, and it was slightly out of tune, but not bad...and I don't think the strings had been properly stretched yet.

Anyway, I'm a happy camper!!

Congratulations! :alright:

BTW, your instrument is the sixth built with the new serial numbering and custom spec sheet,
which G&L started rolling out just last week (see Serial number significance and How do I determine an instrument's age?).

Enjoy

Cool! That spec sheet is really nice to have. I got two of them, though, is there a reason for that?

I was wondering about the serial number. When I added to the Registry it wouldn't let me enter the serial number correctly, so I had to leave off the first "0". When you get it corrected to accept the new SNs, let me know and I'll correct it.

To tie this in with the G&L Related question of the February 15, 2011 LR, if G&L wants to keep their annual production numbers secret, their new S/N numbering scheme will make that impossible. If they are made in sequence, all you have to do is subtract 2 numbers. Amusing ;)

I wonder if that heavy duty snazzy new serial number plate has something to with the extra weight? ;)
Very nice guitar!

Very nice, the spec sheet is a great idea. Dunno about that serial no. plate though, it'd come off really easy making it easier to hide if stolen.

Guys,

Surely the S/N is not a foolproof security feature? The adept thief could very easily knock-off your precious guitar, give it a new 'identity', and sell it on with very little effort, and you (and the police) wouldn't be able to conclusively prove ownership back to yourself?

There are far better products on the market which you can use as an after-sale 'upgrade' to your guitar security if you are really that worried about positively tracking a stolen guitar. Here's one example: http://www.smartwater.com/Personal.aspx if you are in the UK.

Cheers.

You're right Bill, but a guitar where the serial number has been scratched/sanded off is more easily identified as 'dodgy' by a potential buyer than two small screw holes in the back of the headstock.

I don't know why you got two copies, maybe Darth Invader (Dave) can comment on this.

I have updated the G&L Registry to accept the new serial number format and have already corrected your entry.

Enjoy.

Beautiful guitar, Muleya! Sweeeeeeeeeeet!

What finish is that? What exactly do they call it? Is that the "Clear Red"?
