New (to me) Legacy - nut question

Post by SteveO »

Hello,

First post here. I recently picked up really sweet candy apple red Legacy, it is pretty much like new. I really like this guitar - traded a ’95 American Standard for it. It’s got a 4 bolt bi-cut neck I think that puts it pre-2007 if I’ve read the info correctly around here.

I think the nut was cut a little deep as I’m getting some open string buzzing. I’ve read the G&L set up guide posted around here. The space between the 1st fret and the low E is about .011”-.012” instead of the .018-.022” specified in the setup guide (That's measured with D'Addario exl110 strings). Because of the buzzing I am thinking about replacing the nut with a Graphtech tusq or tusq xl (or other brand) pre-slotted nut and deepening the nut slots myself (I have some nut files). The question is; does anyone know the dimensions of the nut? I know the neck is 1 5/8” wide and 7.5” radius.

Edit: The neck I have is marked LES RW #2

Thanks in advance,
-Steve

Bump. :D

Is nut slot flat bottomed like a strat? I would guess it would be but wanted to check before I order a nut.

One more question; what gauge strings come stock on the Legacy? Just wondering how it was setup at the factory.

Thx.

If it's anything like my S-500's nut, it won't be a flat bottomed nut. The nut slot follows the curvature of the neck. I bought a curved bottom Graphtech blank for an American strat and cut new slots to match the width of the old nut. The Graphtech strat nut was a fraction wider than the neck, and just a touch thicker. Nothing 5 minutes with some sandpaper didn't fix.

Good luck!
