G&L Pickups..
Hi again, I'm still looking for that 'perfect' ASAT 'tele'.. Not many dealers around S. Jersey. Think I want just the basic Special.. Anyway, my question is: Is there any difference between the special single coil pu's, and the classic single coils ? Would I hear it ?? Thanks, Rich

You sure wouldWould I hear it ??
The Special pickups have more snarl and bite, which equates to a more extended high end and low end. The neck pickup is a thing of beauty and the bridge pickup can rip your head off if you want it to.
The funny thing is, I would say my Special has a lower output than my Classic even though popular opinion seems to indicate otherwise

You might want to check out the Classic Custom which has a small MFD in the bridge and a large MFD in the neck. I played one a while back and was quite impressed and guys I know who have one are very pleased with it. In any event the small MFD's do sound different from the larger ones. Good hunting. Here's a description of the different pickups used on G&L's that you might find helpful:

To me, the large form factor MFD is where it's at. You just need to get used to rolling off a bit of treble on the bridge pickup (which the tone control does very effectively). The MFDs on my early SC-2 are the best pickups I've ever heard on any guitar, bar none.

The soap MFDs are indeed where it is at. I will second the neck pickup is to die for comment. Another great mode is bridge + neck in series, freaking massive sounding (4 way switch , or rewiring the middle position in the 3 way is required to get it though, either way you need to do a bit of work). The bridge pickup is great ,but I agree a bit bright at times.Submersible wrote:To me, the large form factor MFD is where it's at.
