S-500 Deluxe ordering questions

Post by Martin S »

I am interested in the S-500 Deluxe.

However, I would like to have a swamp ash body with *no* maple cap instead of the "standard" basswood back and maple cap.

Basically it should look exactly like the one below (with a different finish, though - I like the cherryburst finish a lot).

Is it (still) possible to order it like that?

The picture below is from the Gallery - Darrell Prichard's 2003 S-500 Deluxe:

Many thanks in advance!

I think the standard wood combo for an S500 Deluxe is ash body with maple cap, my own has that particular combo, in cherry burst by the way. I have a recently acquired '09 ASAT Special Deluxe bought used, with ash body and maple cap, but the G&L website specs are maple on a mahogany body, not sure if the specs have changed recently though.

There are videos on YouTube by ProGuitarShop demoing ASATs with mahogany body and no cap, special ordered by themselves. Maybe contact them and see if it's do 'able ?

@SouthpawGuy: many thanks for your response. Could you post or PM photos of your cherry burst S-500 Deluxe?

For some reason I could only attach one photo to my response.

Another shot ...

Mine has the locking tuners, if I remember correctly they are no longer standard on this model of guitar but an upgrade. I'm sure someone else can confirm this.

This is correct, when I orderred in august they were using Schaller locking tuners, as an option.

One of those G&L stickers was in my case as well. How long have they been including those ? Anyway, gorgeous S-500 BTW.

At least since '97. It was in the case of my Legacy Special bought in that year.
