x-piece bodies?

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

x-piece bodies?

Post by scolfax »

Looks my Legacy will be here in 2-3 weeks.

I was just reading a post about Fender guitars... apparently the MIM bodies can be made of up to 7 pieces of wood! Anyone know how many pieces a US G&L is typically made of?

Two. I don't recall seeing any photos of G&Ls with more than that.

You could say three if there's a maple top, and four if you include the neck ;)

I have a USA ASAT Special that is 3 pieces of wood. It does not seem to suffer from this.

My recent ASAT special was a 2 piece. I think that is pretty much the standard nowadays. 3 Might be used for a solid finish, really a highly laminated body is no problem though (despite stigma).

Comparing a MIM budget guitar with a USA G&L (heck comparing a std USA fender it may as well be a budget guitar besides the G&L) is a silly comparison though.

This is a 3 piece body, click for closer look!

When I got it, I though 1 piece, but it's 3 pieces.

My other G&L guitars have all 2 piece bodies, they are put together exactly in the mid (except F100E). The Mahogany-Bodies (ASAT DeLuxe, F100) are one piece.
