Hi fellows
I'm still in honeymoon with my asat classic custom, but the strings it came with seem too light for me.
I usually play 11/49 but I noticed that the notch of the saddles are pretty thin and it may be a problem with thicker strings like these.
So I wonder if someone here have put 11/49 strings on an asat classic.
Any advice welcome
cheers
Xavier

Re: ASAT classic saddles & thick strings
You should'nt have any problems with heavier strings at the saddles, the string tension should hold them in place, if they do slide off the saddle take a small round file and deepen the slot some, (Not a lot) it doesn't take much of a slot to hold the strings in place. Where you may have a problem, depending on how heavy you go is at the nut, that's where they will stick and give you tuning problems, have the nut filed to fit the gauge of strings you will be using.

thanks Gary
I was already aware of the "nut thing".
I'm gonna bring my asat to the guitar tech anyway (a real good one) and have it set up for 11/49 strings (as my Legacy already is).

Code: Select all
Just curious. What make/model strings do you use? Will you use the same on both your ASAT and Legacy?
Thanks,
Tom

Re: ASAT classic saddles & thick strings
hey,
I use d'addario XL strings for more than 15 years now, and I fell in love with the 11/49 gauge, it seems really appropriate for my kind of playing , and it fits the legacy really really well. So, I guess the answer is yes, I'm gonna put a set of XL's 11/49 on the asat too.
I'll report what difference it makes. But one thing I can already tell is : when you play heavier gauge on a regular basis, it's weird to play on a guitar that's strung with 10s or 9s
cheers,
Xavier
