Took my Himalayan Blue SC-2 out of the case today...found a small (less than 1 cm) diagonal crack near the neck pocket. It doesn't seem to go into the pocket.
I'm thinking it's just the finish. Mabye a hard shift in the case, or just the change of seasons harassing a rigid poly finish.
What should I look out for to make sure this doesn't go into the wood?
I've heard this is common with tight neck pockets in bolt on necked guitars. The finish cracks there sometimes.
What do you all think?
(maybe I just need something to obsess over because I have a protruding disc in my back, out of work for the week, and in a painkiller haze).
Oh no! Crack in my SC-2!

Don't worry about it. You're right that a finish crack in that area is common. There's very little you can do, and I doubt that the wood will break away, unless you start poking and prying at it. So leave it alone and enjoy you're week off work!

Jamie's right. I wouldn't worry about it. I've got 5 bolt on neck guitars - 3 G&L and 2 Fender - and 3 of them have the small cracks you speak of.
In the case of my guitars it's the ones with the solid colour poly finished that have cracked e.g. the blue S-500 in my avatar.
For some reason my sunburst and tobacco burst have so far been immune.

Cold weather can raise hell with hard finishes. I have to total spider web on the back of one of my guitars (tobacco burst). Nothing wrong with the finish, I think I took it out of it's case too quickly after bringing it in from the cold. It is really only noticeable from one angle. But I know it's annoying. They look so nice when new! Fortunately, it doesn't adversely affect the sound!
