Value of 2008 G&L Legacy?

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

Value of 2008 G&L Legacy?

Post by biggziff »

I've just been offered a 2008 G&L US Legacy. Trans green, maple neck, mint with case and all paperwork. Looks virtually unplayed...guy has a large collection of instruments. Any thoughts on approximate value and original cost?

thanks much!

How much is he selling it for? Have you looked at the prices on ebay for used Legacy's? Around $800 would be good in mint condition in that finish.

Seller is willing to trade me for an item I use very little. Item's value to me is $550-$650. I have been unable to find a trans green Legacy that sold on ebay or any other online service (craiglook, etc) so I couldn't easily estimate its value. I'm looking at it as a daily player. I have a nice selection of vintage stuff, but no "real" strats.

Are there more than one model of the Legacy for 2008? I can't find that information either. This is not a Tribute.

thanks for the replies. I'm new to the G&L stuff and this forum was one of the only active G&L sites I could find.

If you can swing that trade I would say you come out ahead. I would second the around 800, albeit a green guitar is worth all of 500 to me. And if you aren't using it anyway it is a huge win.

Here's a green legacy that just popped up on ebay.
.... not a lot of help considering that one probably won't sell at that price.

Trans green with maple sounds like a great combination.
750-850 seems reasonable ...it's definitely a buyers market right now.

Yes, there were a number of models, check out Production List of G&L Instruments (USA) in the G&L Knowledgebase:
General G&L Questions sub-forum.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Craig. I did find that, but what I'm missing is how to determine which model is which? Are they labeled as such on the headstock?

Thanks...I found that one, but that's just an asking price. From what y'all are saying here it sounds like $700-$800 is the money for a nice one of these.

Only the Legacy Special is labeled as such. All other Legacys just have the Legacy decal.

Here's the G&L USA guitars page. Click on an instrument to see the spec page.
It should give you the missing info you are seeking.

Hope this helps.

I'd agree...if it's in mint or near mint condition, it's probably at the upper end of that range or even slightly higher. If he's willing to trade for yours, which you estimate at $550-$650, hurry up and do it before he changes his mind!!

Just a quick opinion on this guitar. I just purchased a legacy for 700.00 and borrowed a Fender American standard 60th anniversary strat to compare it to for the weekend. I loaned it out in return. I really miss my legacy, the Sound and feel of the legacy is superior to me at least. I'm very happy with the purchase and would not trade for this strat at least.

Well I completed the trade today. The guitar is near mint, but was dusty and had very old strings on it so I tore it apart to clean, restring and set it up. I had a new set of cheapie 10s I bought from MusicYo some years ago so I threw them on after cleaning it. I checked the action and intonation and everything was spot on. The action is incredibly low and the neck fits my hand very well. It may be all mental, but this thing plays like a dream making every tone I can think of. I'm pleased enough that I'm already looking at the rest of the collection to see who gets cut from the team!

Thanks for the help with this one.

Uh-oh. This happened to me too. Most of my guitars are now G&L's, and the others don't get played much. They're addictive, you've been warned.
