Please review the document that Elwood pointed to. It has the information for posting photos here.
If you have any problems with those directions, email or pm me.

Re: I found a bass with an inked serial number
That is the standard location for serial numbers. The number is a waterslidekjohnson wrote:Back of the headstock, right below the tuners.
decal which is applied before the poly clearcoat finish is applied.
From 1980-1983, G&L instruments had the serial number stamped on the bridge.
In 1983, the serial number was relocated and stamp onto the 3-bolt neckplate.
In 1997, G&L moved to waterslide decals for the serial numbers and apply them
on the back of the headstock.
Hope this helps.

Re: I found a bass with an inked serial number
Hmm, sure would like to see pictures (front and back) of that bass.kjohnson wrote:Nope.

Walnut top is not a standard production wood used by G&L. Could be an employee
built bass. Can you send me some photos? (craig@guitarsbyleo.com) I will post them
for all to see.
Thanks,

Re: I found a bass with an inked serial number
Here's the pictures kjohnson sent me to post:
I had received some pictures in email earlier today, that turned out to be from someone else. I had forwarded
them to Dave McLaren to see if he had any info on this bass. Here's his response:
The serial number should be on stamped on the bridge or on the neckplate. I don't see it on the bridge,
so it might be on the neckplate. However, it's quite possible that the neckplate is blank, since this is a
parts bass. Also, the pickup and control plate are not G&L parts and the pickup is not correct for a G&L
L-2000 model. The only things that looks to be original G&L parts are the neck and the bridge.
Whoever built the body copy did a very nice job and the Walnut, Maple, Mahogany combination is very nice, too.
What price are they asking for and which Guitar Center is it at?
Hope this helps.

The silver painted serial number is likely done by a previous owner and it is likely "B009499".Definitely home made. Someone probably had an L-2000, maybe something really bad happened
to it so it got parted out.

Guitar Center Atlanta.
They want $799.
I'll go down sometime this weekend and see if they still have it.

Yikes, that is a joke, I am assuming they didn't do their homework either. I am sure if you went in with this information primed you could get a great deal.kjohnson wrote:Guitar Center Atlanta.

I mentioned in my post of your pictures:kjohnson wrote:Craig wrote:Here's a couple more pics of this bass:

He also included closeup photos of the headstock front and back, but they were very similar to yours.I had received some pictures in email earlier today, that turned out to be from someone else. I had forwarded
them to Dave McLaren to see if he had any info on this bass.
